We’re just under two months away from the biggest show in the NJPW calendar. Wrestle Kingdom will be coming to fans across January 4th & 5th once again this year, but there was the issue of the two main event matches. However, Tetsuya Naito has an idea on how to solve this.
Tetsuya Naito Wants To Do Double Duty
From the moment he won the Double Gold Dash at Wrestle Kingdom 14, Tetsuya Naito had a goal in mind. He wanted to be the ultimate fighting champion, and defend both the IWGP Heavyweight & Intercontinental Championships as much as possible. Instead, he was forced into defending both titles as one, while they were counted as separate entities. This was the case with every title defense after January 5th this year, but that might change as of Wrestle Kingdom 15.
Laying Down The Challenge To Kota Ibushi On January 4th
During a recent NJPW press conference, Naito would be one of the men taking questions from the press. During this, he would make a demand to NJPW management, a plea if you will.
“On January 4, I want to face Kota Ibushi. Yes, Ibushi put his contract on the line and lost to Jay White. So he shouldn’t have a right to a title match at the Tokyo Dome. Yet both of us were in the G1 Climax, and he won it, not me. He won it back to back, not me. That hurt, and I want to get revenge for that. I think Jay should respect that. I beat Ibushi January 4 and face him on January 5. There should be no problem with that. Sorry to Jay, but I want to face Ibushi more. So that’s my official request.”
This softens the blow that fans got yesterday when Jay White would roll up Ibushi and use the ropes to get a sneaky win. Fans want this match in the main event of Wrestle Kingdom, and Ibushi won the G1. Even if it’s for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship, Ibushi deserves this main event match.
Jay White Has Made The Challenge For January 5th
This doesn’t mess with the carefully laid plans of The Switchblade either. He has already made it clear that he wants his title shot on January 5th, likely anticipating this move from Naito. Everyone knows that Ibushi brings out the most reckless side of Naito, with their matches being some of the most dangerous in professional wrestling. Add in the bright lights of the Tokyo Dome uping everyone’s level, and White might just need to pick the scraps of Naito on January 5th and walk away as IWGP Heavyweight Champion.
