New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) continued the Best of the Super Juniors series (BOSJ 27) on November 23, 2020, at the G Messe Gunma in Gunma, Japan. The COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) reduced crowd of 820 showed up to see a night of Junior Heavyweight action.
The second series match of the event saw CHAOS member “Sniper of the Skies” Robbie Eagles against former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member Bushi. The contest was pivotal for both as they vyed for standings within the BOSJ 27 table.
Eagles came in after a victory over fellow CHAOS member “High Voltage” Sho on November 20th, while Bushi dropped the fall to fellow LIJ member former three-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and BOSJ 25 winner “Time Bomb” Hiromu Takahashi.
A win for the CHAOS member meant he would sit near the top of the BOSJ 27 standings, while Bushi would keep pace with a victory of his own. The two wrestled a sound match, which saw both stick to their strengths to overwhelm their adversary. However, Robbie couldn’t find the same match ending combination that he found against Sho and was unable to defeat the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion.
Bushi would capture the fall at the 11 minutes and 23 seconds mark with his MX technique. The win moved Bushi to (2-2) [4 points]. The loss dropped Eagles to (2-2) [4 points]. Bushi would go on to face “Funky Weapon” Ryusuke Taguchi on November 25th, while Eagles faced reigning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and Bullet Club member “Bone Soldier” Taiji Ishimori on the same night.
With the results, both Eagles and Bushi needed to win on the 25th to keep their BOSJ 27 Finals hopes alive to keep hopes alive in winning their first trophy in NJPW. Bushi is known to finish strong within previous BOSJ tournaments.
