Moments After The Beginning Of The November 23, 2020 Best Of The Super Juniors 27 Match Between Sho And Ryusuke Taguchi via New Japan Pro Wrestling

New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) continued the Best of the Super Juniors series (BOSJ 27) on November 23, 2020, at the G Messe Gunma in Gunma, Japan. The COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) reduced crowd of 820 showed up to see a night of Junior Heavyweight action.

The headline series match of the event saw CHAOS member “High Voltage” Sho take on former two-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and BOSJ 19 winner “Funky Weapon” Ryusuke Taguchi. Sho came into the match after falling to fellow CHAOS member “Sniper of the Skies” Robbie Eagles on November 20th. Taguchi was able to defeat “Way to the Grand Master” Master Wato on the same night.

In what was a swing match for both wrestlers, Taguchi used his experience advantage along with his ground-based techniques to frustrate the stronger and quicker Sho throughout the contest. However, Sho was able to showcase his development as a singles competitor, showing his ability to fight back against the veteran during pivotal points of the match.

Taguchi looked as if he was going to be able to hang on and grab the victory at points, but he was unable to outlast the CHAOS member. Sho captured the fall at the 17 minutes and 5 seconds mark after using his Shock Arrow Piledriver technique.

The victory moved Sho to (3-1) [6 points] while Taguchi fell to (2-2) [4 points]. Sho went on to face Suzuki-Gun member El Desperado on November 25th, while Taguchi faced former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member Bushi on the same night.

The victory for Sho kept him on pace at the top of the BOSJ 27 table, while the loss knocked Taguchi into the middle of the standings. If Sho can continue a solid form he could end up making the BOSJ 27 finals and winning his first singles trophy in NJPW after his Super Junior Tag League trophies victories in 2017, 2018, and 2019 with Roppongi 3k teammate Yoh.
