On Night Two of Wrestle Kingdom 15, Jay White wrestled one of the best matches of his life. Against any other man, on any other night, he would have left as the IWGP Double Champion, but Kota Ibushi is competing on another level right now. We know what is next for Ibushi, as he is set to face SANADA in his first title defense, but White is another story.
Jay White Seems To Be Considering Retirement
In the post Wrestle Kingdom 15 press conference, Jay White was more than just defeated. There sat a man crushed by the reality of his situation. Up until now, when he called a shot, made a prediction? It came true. He beat Kazuchika Okada, he beat Hiroshi Tanahashi, he beat Kota Ibushi to get the Tokyo Dome main event spot. White was going to walk into that ring, and leave draped in gold. But this time, he couldn’t do it.
His confidence in shambles, to the point where he stated that after New Years Dash, he was done. It would be his last night in NJPW. “Maybe my time should be spent somewhere else” is something he said during the interview, while physically, mentally and emotionally drained.
Set For A Major Babyface Run?
While his claims of taking his ball and going home is potentially the truth, and White will retire on the top of his game at old 28 years old, it’s more likely this is a new start for him. New Years Dash always brings a surprise, like Suzuki-Gun making their debut, or AJ Style being kicked out of Bullet Club. There’s a good chance that New Years Dash sets White on a new course after this crushing loss.
Maybe White leaves Bullet Club, stops playing the role of a villian, and finds the fire within that made him one of the best Young Lions in recent memory. Since he made his return to NJPW, he’s held himself back from using some of his most impressive moves, moves that might be vital to taking him to the top of NJPW. You might not remember his time in Ring Of Honor, where he showcased some insane high flying while taking men like Jay Briscoe to their limits. There is insane babyface potential in White, which was shown in that post Wrestle Kingdom 15 press conference.
