Since NXT UK has come back, Gallus Boys have consistently been on top. Joe Coffey has only suffered a single loss, that being to Rampage Broke, while Mark Coffey & Wolfgang remain firmly on top of the tag team ranks. They are the longest reigning NXT UK Tag Team Champions eve, at 497 days as champion tonight.
Tonight, they are tested once again as they face off with Lewis Howley & Sam Stoker, better known as Pretty Deadly. Pretty Deadly earned this match by defeating three other teams in an Elimination Match, including former NXT UK Tag Team Champions Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster. Will the Dandy Highwaymen become champions tonight, or will Gallus Boys stay on top?Remove term:
Putting The 16 Month Reign Of Gallus On The Line Again
Coffey would start alongside Stoker, locking up but showing they’re equally matched. Stoker would be shoved into the corner off the lockup, Coffey winning out before Howley was tagged in. Howley was taken down fast with a wrist lock, before Wolfgang tagged in. Wolfgang would go to work on the arm of Howley, tossing him down and attacking the arm.
Coffey would follow up on the arm when he got the tag, but Howley slipped away for a tag. Stoker tagged in, was taken down but got a blind tag to Howley who was still unable to gain the advantage. Wolfgang was back in, Howley getting a headlock but Wolfgang rolling through into a single leg crab. Coffey was tagged in, grabbed the other leg and together they tossed Howley across the ring.
Howley would slip outside of the ring, and regroup with his partner. Coffey was hit with a hip toss and shoulder tackle, but Howley was taken down with a hip toss slam right into a pinfall for a two count. Howley would be saved by Stoker as Wolfgang tagged in and looked to crash into him in the corner. Wolfgang just hit the turnbuckle, and Pretty Deadly would start to look for control. Coffey hopped in to even the odds but the referee kept order.
Pretty Deadly Are A Pure Tag Team
Wolfgang & Stoker were legal, and they’d pick up where they left off. Stoker was sent into the corner with a toss, Wolfgang crashed in and Stoker hit the mat. Howley ran a distraction, Wolfgang took the bait and took the knee to the back. He’d take a spill to the outside, where Howley beat him down before sending him back in. Howley got the tag and hit a double backbreaker, just the first of many double team attacks that Wolfgang would endure as Pretty Deadly used the five count between tags like masters of their craft.
They’d focus on the left arm of Wolfgang, Howley throwing his shoulder right into the turnbuckle, before tagging in Stoker. Howley held Wolfgang in place, as Stoker dove in with a back elbow strike to the face. More quick tags came, and even when Wolfgang got Howley down, Stoker would keep him in their corner and away from the tag.
Wolfgang was set up on the top rope for a superplex, but instead dove off onto the back of Howley. Howley grabbed the leg to slow him from the tag, and Stoker tried to cut him off. Coffey managed to get the tag in, and he’d go to work with a flurry of hard strikes and suplexes. Howley was hit with liver shots before a running lariat and second rope bulldog for a two count. Coffey wouldn’t get frustrated by the kick out, just moving right into a side russian leg sweep. He’d go for a back suplex, but Howley countered into a roll up.
A Back & Forth War Until Wolfgang Got Emotional
Stoker was tagged in, but dropped fast by Coffey with a suplex. Coffey went for a chokeslam, but Stoker slipped out. Stoker got a blind tag to Howley, Coffey not realizing until he was kicked in the head. Howley took him onto his shoulders, and threw Coffey into a gutbuster from Stoker.
Coffey kicked out, and hit the jumping roundhouse kick to the face of Howley. Wolfgang managed to get back to the apron, and was ready to tag back in after being beat down earlier. Coffey would catch Howley into a Samoan Drop after Wolfgang tossed him, before Wolfgang nailed a moonsault, but Stoker made the save. Stoker would be taken out with a chokeslam on the apron, but Howley almost got Wolfgang in the ring with a rollup.
Wolfgang came back with a spear into a spinebuster, but Howley kicked out at two. Coffey was tagged back in, but Stoker was able to prevent the double team. Wolfgang took Howley out of the ring with a lariat over the top rope, before Stoker lured Wolfgang out with a slap to the face. Howley hit a big back elbow, and that took Wolfgang over the barricade. He was out of the picture.
Pretty Deadly had Mark Coffey alone, and Stoker hit a codebreaker for a two count. They’d press the advantage, Stoker grabbing one of the tag team titles to distract the referee, while Howley tried to knock Coffey out. Coffey dodged, and dropped Howley but the title remained in the ring. As the referee took the other one out, Stoker hit a DDT onto the title belt! Pretty Deadly hit a neckbreaker variant of the Hart Attack, and we have new NXT UK Tag Team Champions!
This was a tag team clinic from both teams involved in the match. Gallus has possibly one of the best matches of their reign, but Pretty Deadly wrestled their best match since joining NXT UK. They really showed up big here, and this was easily the biggest win of their careers. This ends the reign of Gallus just shy of 500 days, a reign Pretty Deadly will hope to beat. Match Rating: 4/5 (****)
