While we aren’t getting a WWE Draft or even a Superstar Shakeup following Wrestlemania 37, there have been some surprises to boost the rosters of RAW & Smackdown. Charlotte Flair & Viking Raiders made their return to Monday Night RAW, but Smackdown Live was left a bit in the dust. However, a reported move could help freshen this roster up a bit. With Retribution now a dead faction, the members will be moved around the roster. We don’t know the fates of T-Bar & Mace, but it seems like Mia Yim & Slapjack are moving to Smackdown.
Mia Yim Is An Instant Contender For Bianca Belair
The bigger name here is Mia Yim. While she didn’t get to do much as a member of Retribution, her work in NXT shows her reputation for being tough as nails. Her matches with the likes of Shayna Baszler & Candice LeRae are on the upper end of NXT women’s matches, but she never was able to claim the NXT Women’s Championship.
Yim isn’t your typical top level female wrestler in WWE. She’s technically sound, but more of a street-wise brawler, a style that helps her stand out. This rough style would play a good contrast to the more fundamental style of current Smackdown Women’s Champion, and give her a strong opponent for a title defense.
No One Cared About Slapjack Until He Put On The Mask
Meanwhile, Slapjack has a harder time standing out. Mia Yim has a strong reputation, while Shane Thorne has consistently been in the lower card of WWE. His tag team with Nick Miller in NXT was a fan favorite, but never won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic or NXT Tag Team Championships. A solo run from Thorne in NXT gave strong matches with names like Johnny Gargano, but again, didn’t do much to raise his stock.
He’s arguably been at his hottest as Slapjack, with his odd name and old school hockey mask helping him to stand out. Even if just as an internet meme of sorts, this has been his best run yet in terms of fan reactions. Hopefully WWE is able to find some way to use him, even if they need to pull up the old antics of Mankind to try and make him work; this could be his only chance to really make an impact.
Keith Lee Could Follow Mia Yim To Smackdown Live
However, the biggest implication doesn’t involve Yim or Slapjack themselves, but rather the husband of Mia Yim. Keith Lee has been trying to get cleared to return to WWE, with fans unsure if it’s concussion or long lasting effects of COVID-19 being the issue. However, he’s made it clear that he WILL make it back, and if Yim is on Smackdown, he’ll likely be with her.
This makes potential matches against Roman Reigns, Cesaro, Seth Rollins, Shinsuke Nakamura, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, and Daniel Bryan for Keith Lee. That list alone shows why he’d be better used on Smackdown, whereas on RAW he would be retreading old rivalries with Lashley, Randy Orton, Riddle & Drew McIntyre.
