Right now, the longest reigning champion in AEW is easily Hikaru Shida with the AEW World Women’s Championship. It’s been a year since she won the belt from Nyla Rose, and since then has done a lot to raise the status of the belt, and the division surrounding it. Reaching one year as champion is something worth celebrating, and AEW is doing exactly that tonight with Hikaru Shida.
Hikaru Shida Gets A New Championship
Shida would hit the ring in a gown with the AEW World Women’s Championship over her shoulder. Bryce Remsburg had another copy of the belt, an updated title that will be the belt going forward. Shiavone would put it around her waist, before handing her the microphone.
When she won the belt, there was no fans. Tonight, they’re back and filling up Daily’s Place. She will finally get to defend the belt infront of a packed crowd, and is proud of everyone that made his possible. Britt Baker would interrupt, but came in peace. She’d congratulate Shida for being champion during the hardest year in wrestling history.
Britt Baker Will Be The Face Of A New Era
Baker would say that she recently misspoke when talking to Jim Ross. She claimed that she would be the face of the AEW Women’s division when she becomes champion. However, what she meant to say was that she will define a new era when she wins that new belt at Double or Nothing however. Once wrestling was all about 3:16, but soon it’ll be all about D.M.D.
This is the biggest a match over the AEW World Women’s Championship has ever felt. Either lady could walk away with the championship, and while Hikaru Shida is a fan favorite, the fans in Jacksonville tonight seemed to be on the side of Britt Baker.
