Right now in All Elite Wrestling, we’re on the road to one of the biggest rematches possible in their women’s division. For 336 days now, Hikaru Shida has been the AEW World Women’s Champion, and she’s dropped all comers. Her latest challenger was Tay Conti, who she dispatched in a hard hitting fight this past Wednesday on AEW Dynamite. Now, Britt Baker has stepped back up, having played AEW’s game, and worked her way up the rankings with some wins. It’ll likely be Britt Baker vs. Hikaru Shida at AEW Double Or Nothing, but is Britt the right person to end this reign?
Over A Year Since Their Last Clash
The last match between Britt Baker & Hikaru Shida was one of the best in the AEW Women’s division at the time, and holds up even now. It was all the way back in April 2020, when AEW was running Dynamites from The Nightmare Factory in Georgia, instead of Daily’s Place in Florida. Baker famously broke her nose during the match, with that blood really elevating and legitimizing what was a hard hitting war of a match.
Now, Baker has improved leaps and bounds and so has Shida. The Lights Out match with Thunder Rosa showed the sheer potential of Britt Baker, while Shida putting together the Women’s Eliminator tournament really boosted her reputation with fans. Now, they will meet again, and the expectations are higher than ever for a title change.
Britt Baker Is The Biggest Potential Star In Their Division
With this being the biggest match that AEW can do in their women’s division, and with their crowd size steadily growing? It’s going to need something memorable like a title change. This could truly solidify Baker as the face of the women’s division, something she has claimed since the very beginning.
Shida does have the goal of carrying this belt all the way until AEW goes back on the road, but she simply doesn’t have as much star potential at the moment. Fans are bored of her reign, and AEW only giving her chances to wrestle on TV for title matches isn’t helping that case. With Baker, AEW will be likely doing more with her on TV due to her mic skills and charisma, which makes a title change the best bet for AEW.
