Last night on Smackdown Live, Roman Reigns was successful in defending his Universal Championship against Daniel Bryan. This extends his reign past 244 days, and was his 10th defense of this reign. However, it was more notable for two reasons. Firstly, this loss had the condition that if Daniel Bryan should lose, he was gone from Smackdown Live for good. Secondly, Roman Reigns finally got to debut his new entrance music.
Roman Reigns Finally Got New Theme Music, Removing The Shield Theme From The Mix
Ever since The Shield first broke up back in 2014, fans were puzzled why Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins got new theme songs, while Reigns kept using the Shield theme without the iconic intro. Occasional reunions did happen, but fans began to associate the theme song more with Roman Reigns than the faction, which isn’t coming back after Ambrose left WWE in 2019.
Finally, Reigns has his own original theme song, having made its debut in this match with Daniel Bryan. While a lot of fans are just happy that Reigns finally has new music to go with his new character, most were quick to point out that the theme song was rather generic. Aside from an epic opening, it blends in with other defrebel produced themes, notably for Seth Rollins & Bayley who are also on Smackdown.
As many people agreed that is was a bit on the plain and underwhelming side, as fans called it ‘true final boss’ music. So just like with everything else regarding Roman Reigns, reactions were mixed. It does suit his character more than the Shield theme did, but nothing about it screams ‘This is Roman Reigns’ in this theme song. Maybe it will take time to settle in, or WWE can tweak it over time.
Can It Be Improved Or Tweaked Going Forward?
Rarely does a theme song in WWE just come out and stay in its original form forever. They are always tweaking or improving theme songs. A great example comes in Keith Lee. When he made his debut on Monday Night RAW, he barely had a sketch of a theme song. By the time vocals were added, it was a good theme song.
This could be the same situation for Roman Reigns, as it just feels like something is missing that will really make it pop like the vocals did for Keith Lee. What do you think it could be missing? Do you like Roman Reigns’ new theme song as it is? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
