It’s time for another ROH Survival of The Fittest qualifying match, this time airing on Week by Week. So far we’ve seen Demonic Flamita, Brian Johnson, and Eli Isom advance to the six way match, and tonight either O’Shay Edwards or Chris Dickinson will join them. Edwards is flying high after being able to defeat Sledge in a brutal no DQ match and becoming a full fledged member of Shane Taylor Promotions. Meanwhile Dickinson is looking to push VLNCE UNLTD one step closer to complete control in ROH.
O’Shay Edwards Is The Better Brawler
Code of Honor would be adhered too with a simple handshake, before the bell would ring. Dickinson went for a single leg takedown, but Edwards was able to block this and make his way to the ropes to get the break. We’d see a clean break, before they’d trade shoulder tackles. Edwards took Dickinson down with ease, before looking for a suplex out of the corner. Dickinson blocked the exploder, but a vertical suplex sent him across the ring.
Edwards was trying to fire Dickinson up, but Dickinson remained calm and dodged a big boot near the ropes. Dickinson would kick at the hamstring of Edwards, before hitting a basement dropkick to the knees. A shining wizard finally put Edwards down for a two count, before Dickinson looked to move into a high angle single leg crab.
Edwards would be able to crawl to the ropes, but Dickinson didn’t allow a clean break, instead stomping down on the knee. The leg was a clear target, and now Dickinson was showing his fire as he talked trash and choked Edwards with his boot. Edwards got back up and welcomed strikes from Dickinson. They’d trade blows in the middle of the ring, Edwards luring Dickinson into his type of match.
Chris Dickinson Bends The Rules, But Shows Technical Dominance
Some leg kicks from Dickinson saw Edwards briefly stumble, but he’d run into a snap spinebuster. Edwards would drive Dickinson into the corner with some lariats before hitting the exploder suplex for a two count. Dickinson would roll Edwards into an STF in the middle of the ring, but again Edwards got to the ropes.
A calf crusher was used during the referee’s five count, causing Edwards to go to the apron. Dickinson took him down with a dragon screw, and applied the STF one more time, and O’Shay Edwards had zero choices but to tap out. Shane Taylor was on commentary for this match, and blamed the loss on himself. He didn’t prepare Edwards for the possibility of Dickinson bending the rules.
This was a hard hitting but simple match. Edwards showed a steady power advantage, but Dickinson was able to outwork him due to simply being more experienced and willing to cheat. Dickinson is a top pick for most in this tournament, making his advancement the right move. Match Rating: 2.75/5 (** 3/4)
