As Pride Month starts to wrap up for 2021, we’re still seeing professional wrestlers open up about who their true selves are. We’ve recently seen NXT star Toni Storm come out as bisexual, and other LGBTQ+ stars such as Anthony Bowens, Mercedes Marteniz, and Jake Atlas get some spotlight. The industry has come a long way, and that has helped people be honest with their fans. Another star who falls under the bisexual banner is O’Shay Edwards, and while on the ROH Strong podcast, he’d open up about the topic.
O’Shay Edwards Found Acceptance In Professional Wrestling
He’d start by talking about his experiences working as a firefighter, and how that wasn’t exactly the most welcoming space. You need thick skin for that job, even to just survive the 24 hour shifts. He worked with some firemen who were out, and saw how they were treated, and kept to himself because of it. Edwards wasn’t ready then, but the people important to him knew. Once he finally left the fire department and focused on his wrestling career, he was able to start to gain his confidence. While the fear of the unknown was strong, he realized he didn’t care.
“What’s the worst anyone’s gonna do to me, that i haven’t already done to myself? Nothing no no you can’t touch me like, what are you gonna do to me? Like what it how is it that be living my own life my own truth affects you in any certain way because you may not agree with it which is fine you don’t have to agree with it, but why is it a problem? But since then it has been such a relief and it has been such a welcoming of like hey man, congratulations you know we’re so proud of you and wrestling gave me that type of acceptance in a world at the time that i didn’t think would ever accept.”
His Future Is Bright Alongside Shane Taylor Promotions
Right now, O’Shay Edwards is certainly on the rise in ROH. He’s finished up in the ROH Dojo, and his recent victory over Sledge in a YouTube exclusive match finally earned him an official spot in Shane Taylor Promotions. Edwards is a dominant powerhouse on his own, but alongside Kaun, Moses & Shane Taylor? He’s downright terrifying.
Provided he can start to gain steam and positive attention from fans, the sky’s the limit for someone like Edwards. He’s got the right attitude to be a top star, the look, and is improving every single time he hits the ring. We can’t be surprised if in a few years time, we’re seeing him contend for the ROH World Championship.
What do you think is the limit for the potential of O’Shay Edwards in Ring of Honor? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
