Perhaps one of the most surprising events of recent years was not YouTuber Jake Paul turning to boxing, but serious MMA fighters’ willingness to compete with him in the ring. The next challenge for Paul will be former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, who is utterly confident in his ability to knock Paul out.
Woodley told TMZ Sports: “I plan on knocking him out, man. I just feel like all my training is to provide violence.
Tyron Woodley plans to knock Jake Paul out
Everyone wants to make a prediction of what round, but you don’t even know what you’re going to eat for breakfast tomorrow!.
You’re going to tell me what round you’re knocking me out in? No. I’m knocking him out.”
Woodleys’ rivalry, if you can call it that, with Jake Paul goes way back to Paul’s farce of a boxing match against Ben Askren. Askren, best known during his UFC days as a wrestler, succumbed to a knockout on the boxing ring, and left smiling with his family in tow.
All in a day’s work (and pay) for him. Woodley, on the other hand, went straight to Paul’s dressing room and the two got in each other’s faces, talking trash.
Woodley took to Twitter later to air his disgust: “Begging so hard to get your prostitute a gig. You trying to fight everyone BUT me! When you realize I’m not with the child’s play you froze like winter and started stuttering! You want real smoke or you wanna keep padding yo bitch ass record?”
Woodley elaborated on his game plan with Submission Radio: “I plan on knocking him out.
Not because it just sounds good, because I feel like if I come forward and I hit him with punches and I hit him with pressure and I stay in his face and I make him miss and I make him pay and I make it ugly for him, I just think he can’t take it.
He’s never experienced it. He’s never been beyond two rounds with anybody. So how can I expect him to outlast me?”
At his peak, Tyron Woodley was a lethal opponent. Primarily a wrestler, with a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Woodley was no slouch in terms of striking ability. He earned his welterweight title by knocking out then-champion Robbie Lawler, although his last four fights in the UFC ended in losses.
Woodley is undoubtedly Paul’s toughest opponent yet, but whether the retired mixed martial artist can win in the boxing ring is another story. Do you see Woodley knocking Jake Paul out? Let us know in the comments.
