Orange Cassidy is probably getting sick of having to deal with the Hardy Family Office, or whatever. Tonight he will take on Matt Hardy himself in a big time singles match. Hardy has been dealing with his own business less and less as he gets older, but that won’t stop him from going all out to take Orange Cassidy down tonight.
Matt Hardy Almost Loses Some Big Money
Hardy would hit the ring without the backing of the H.F.O, but they could always be lurking nearby. Both men have incredible singles records in 2021, but this one started off with OC hitting his signature low kicks while Hardy reverted back to Broken Matt Hardy with some delete chants. OC went for a superkick, but Hardy would stop him and pull money out of his pockets.
A big dropkick sent Hardy’s money flying, and him to the outside, before OC took some money for himself and went for a big dive to the outside. Hardy would catch him into a side effect, and proceed to bend him around the ring post. Back in the ring, Hardy would nail a series of back suplexes, before Hardy gathered his cash from earlier.
Some mocking kicks to OC would be followed up with a body slam and elbow drop, getting Hardy a two count. Hardy would follow up with a suplex, and would take his money back from OC. A back elbow and a leg drop got a two count, before throwing OC right into the corner. OC would use his speed to dodge Hardy, and would be able to come off the top rope, but Hardy is smarter than this.
Orange Cassidy Had An Extra Trick In His Pocket
He’d dodge a crossbody attempt, and Beach Break was countered, and Hardy would nail Splash Mountain for a two count. Hardy would signal for the Twist of Fate, but OC kept rolling away. OC would finally get grabbed, but was able to send Hardy to the outside. He’d ram him into the barricade, and back in the ring would nail the crossbody this time!
A big DDT followed, and somewhere in the last few moves Hardy busted his nose open. OC would hit a hands free Swanton Bomb before a lazy delete chant, before an attempt at Twist Of Fate! Hardy countered and hit a second rope elbow drop, only getting two. A second attempt by OC would see the Twist of Fate land for a two count. Orange Punch would be next, but Hardy dodged and looked to apply the Leech. OC would counter into a pocket pin, and get a hard fought match!
A great opening match that had the crowd up and on their feet from start to finish. Hardy is able to work around his limited movement using his character work, and OC is just one of AEW’s best. This one was better in the ring than anyone expected. Match Rating: 3.25/5 (*** 1/4)
