After lots of issues involving The Allure, Quinn McKay was finally able to get herself into the ROH Women’s Championship tournament. Fittingly enough, her first round opponent is Mandy Leon of The Allure, and with Angelina Love barred from ringside? McKay has a chance to truly prove that she can hang with someone with the experience of Leon, without being distracted.
Quinn McKay Starts Off Hot
Last time these two met, Leon won only due to the help of a sneaky punch from Brass Knuckles, but without Angelina Love at ringside? That won’t be an issue. Given their past, no Code of Honor wasn’t a shock. McKay ran right in with a spear and tried to lock in the Tangerine Dream. Leon was able to fight free before McKay nailed a dropkick sending her to the outside.
McKay followed Leon to the outside and threw her into the barricade before hitting a snap suplex on the floor. She was showing some serious aggression, and risked looking past the win. Leon would take advantage and slam McKay into the mat before hitting a low side kick to the side of the head. A neckbreaker would follow, and the pace was slowed down by Leon as we went into a commercial break.
Mandy Leon Gets Caught
Back from the break, Leon was still in control and would hit a snapmare before a PK and a neck snap for a two count. Leon would go up top, but McKay would catch her up top and look for a superplex. McKay would be able to complete the move, and instead hit the top turnbuckle face first. Leon would nail a running Unprettier, but McKay would kick out of a cocky pinfall.
A drop toehold from McKay sent Leon into the bottom turnbuckle, before McKay nailed a backbreaker before slamming her to the mat for a two count. McKay would follow up with a powerslam, before looking for the Tangerine Dream again, only for Leon to counter with a backpack Stunner. Leon would look for the Astral Projection, but McKay would counter into a pinfall for the win!
A great underdog babyface performance from Quinn McKay, showing her skills in the ring. It was hard to not be behind her the entire match, and Leon played the heel role well enough. The action in the ring was fairly standard, but this one was more about the story of McKay finally overcoming The Allure. Match Rating: 2.5/5 (** 1/2)
