After winning a quick (but excellent!) tournament, The Lucha Bros have the best chance anyone has at taking The Young Bucks down. They get their old rivals all alone in a Steel Cage, without The Elite to come to the aid of the AEW World Tag Team Champions. The Young Bucks hoped to not have to defend at this show, but are ready to give another huge PPV performance to try and show they’re still the best tag team in the world.
Lucha Bros Don’t Have To Worry About More Than Two Of The Elite
The cage in AEW is less about escaping and more about ensuring no one gets in. Bell would ring and they’d take in the cage before brawling it out. Lucha Bros sent Bucks off the ropes, who climbed the cage before getting a kick in the spine and hitting the cage. Bucks would take kicks to the head in the corner, before Nick was again kicked into the cage.
Fenix & Nick both looked for top rope armdrags, but Fenix hit a hurricanrana before a dropkick to the hips of Matt. Nick & Matt got run into the steel with spears, but on the second attempt Lucha Bros instead went headfirst into the steel. Penta was set up across the ring, and after Fenix was stomped, Nick would roll into the backstabber to get him.
Fenix was powerbombed into the steel, before Penta took a PK as he was trapped between the cage and the ring. Matt would choke Fenix with a chain, as Nick shoved the face of Penta into the cage. Fenix avoided a powerbomb with a hurricanrana before Penta hit two sling blades and a backstabber of his own. Switching from Nick to Matt in mid-flight, Fenix hit an armdrag, before taking a cutter.
Fenix would come back with a double cutter, before Penta nailed Made In Japan for a two count. Matt would get the sharpshooter on Penta while Nick hit a German Suplex onto the ring apron. Fenix would be able to barely save Penta afterwards, before being kicked down.
The Young Bucks Have No Limits
Indytaker was set up, Penta getting spiked before Fenix took a senton. BTE Trigger was set up on Fenix, but he’d dodge and cause the knees to collide. Fenix would block another Indytaker attempt before Matt Jackson nailed two low blows. Two superkicks would follow, before The Young Bucks ripped at the masks of The Lucha Bros, before lawndarting Fenix into the steel.
Cutler would throw a bag into the ring, and Matt would take his shoes off. He’d pull out a shoe covered in thumbtacks, keen to kick Fenix out, but Penta would block his brother. Matt would sit and wait before Penta had his face jammed into the tacks by Nick. A running big boot would follow, and Penta was a bloody mess. BTE Trigger was all that’s left, but Fenix was up and took a tacky superkick.
Fenix would still save Penta after a BTE Trigger, but what more do they have. A huge hurricanrana would drop Nick, as he gave everything he had before grabbing the shoe and smacking both men before the Black Fire Driver for a two count. Matt & Penta both hit Package Piledrivers, before fighting in the middle. A bloody Penta would go up top and take Matt down with a super destroyer.
They all struggled to their feet, and traded chops and superkicks until everyone was back down. Fenix would hit the rewind kick and Lucha Bros nailed the Super Fear Factor for the two count, Matt making the save. Penta told Fenix to go up top, and it might be an Ultra Fear Factor. Nick made the save and went after Fenix and was kicked down. A dive off the top, Fear Factor, and this was over. New champions!
An absolutely insane and brutal cage match that only Young Bucks & Lucha Bros could pull off. The crowd was on fire the whole time. It was bloody, it was fast paced, and they truly gave their all. You want to hate The Young Bucks, but they’re just so damn good. This match was AEW personified, and the hot crowd says it all really. Match Rating: 4.5/5 (**** 1/2)
