Cody Rhodes‘ last couple of years in AEW have been weird. Through the years, he has gone out of his way to put restraints on his career in AEW. The first being the fact that he said he’ll never go for the AEW championship. Then the fact that he keeps saying he never wants to be a heel.
Lastly, teasing a retirement at 36 then saying that he won’t be retiring until 40, at least. It is adding to a very confusing future for Cody Rhodes. However, after the match between Malakai Black at Grand Slam. Cody Rhodes might not have a choice as the crowds’ reaction was massively surprising, with Cody getting booed for most of the match.
Was it all part of the plan?
In the past couple of months, Cody has been massively against turning heel. With him saying he never wants to turn heel, and he would retire before he’d turn heel. Knowing that Cody doesn’t really have a choice with fans turning on him, was it all part of Cody’s plan to put over a heel turn before it happens? It seems like all this is leading to the delusional heel, where he thinks he’s the good guy, but really, he is the bad guy.
The outfit alone he’s been wearing hints at a Homelander feel and him being an evil patriotic character like Homelander. Then there’s the return of Brandi Rhodes, which has always been a good part of Cody’s heel gimmick. It all seems to be Cody teasing the heel turn, and all this was planned from the start.
Will it happen in Rochester?
Rochester is shaping up to be a well-booked show with the TNT championship on the line. Another interesting match involves Cody, which could be the place where he turns heel. The match is a tag match between Cody Rhodes and Lee Johnson Vs. Dante Martin & Matt Sydal.
This is where they pull the trigger, and Cody turns heel on Lee Johnson. This would be a great story to tell as Lee was the first of the Nightmare Factory to fight for Cody against Malakia Black. Turning heel on Lee Johnson would really make the story go full circle and bring it to the next level.
