Jonathan Gresham is undefeated when it comes to Pure Wrestling matches. He’s the champion, and is 12-0 in the format. However, tonight he gets perhaps his truest test as champion yet. He’s always been able to out wrestle his opponents, but Josh Woods might not be so easy for Gresham to control. If anyone will end his reign it will be Josh Woods tonight – in what could be the greatest match the Pure Division has ever seen.

Josh Woods & Jonathan Gresham Get Right Into It

Code of Honor would be adhered too, and they went right into it. Neither man could get an advantage, before Woods would power Gresham to the mat for some pinfalls. Woods would get his wrists tied up, and Gresham would use that to get free. Back into another lockup, would see Woods shove Gresham into the ropes and aggressively shove him into it. They’d do it again, and this time the referee called that both men lost a rope break – leaving them two for this match.

Gresham would go for a takedown and be blocked, Woods getting a huge armdrag and go to the arm in the middle of the ring. Woods would get caught in a headscissor hold, but was able to fight his way free. Gresham would pop the arm of Woods with his legs, before running into a big boot. Woods would go to the top rope, but get kicked in the arm, and slide down. Gresham took the top rope, but was thrown to the mat. Woods would take another blow to the arm, which was getting weaker with each move from Gresham.

Gresham hit an arm-wringer, and wanted to pop the shoulder again, before Woods would go for a suplex. They’d find themselves in the ropes, and the referee warned them again. Woods took Gresham down with an armdrag, before Gresham turned it around into a Kimura Lock. Gresham would get caught again, and go to the ropes. Woods wouldn’t let it go, and both men used a rope break as per the referee. Each man just has one more.

    It’s Not Ending Like That

Back in the middle of the ring, they’d fight for control of an inside cradle, rolling around the ring. This one would end with both shoulders on the mat for a three count – and this was a draw with Gresham retaining. Gresham took a microphone, and demanded the match be restarted. The best wrestler in the world won’t have this tarnish his reign, and they’d shake hands again.

They’d trade some blows in the middle of the ring, with Woods uncorking a huge one to the ear. Gresham would nearly end up in the Beast Lock, and they’d roll near the ropes and trade blows. Another double rope break, and suddenly there are no more rope breaks in this match. It’s Sudden Death. Gresham would get a huge Sunset Flip for a two count, before applying a high ankle lock.

Woods broke out into a sleeper hold, and he’d get the legs around to trap Gresham in the middle of the ring. Gresham went back to the hurt arm, and would get out of the hold that way. Woods would end up in a headscissor, which Gresham turned into a pin which was countered. Gresham went off the top rope, and took a knee strike to the jaw.

Woods would go for Chaos Theory, but Gresham landed on his feet and would batter Woods with elbow strikes before a Crucifix pinfall. Gresham would apply an ankle lock, and Woods countered into one of his own. Woods would nail Chaos Theory, but only got a two count. Gresham threw some strikes, and hit a German Suplex with a deep bridge for the two, before a forearm to the head. He’d go from pin into submission, before being picked up and slammed down with a reverse Alley Oop for the win.

An incredible match from a wrestling standpoint and storytelling, with both men getting aggressive in this match – with this forcing both men into sudden death. Woods was able to survive finishers Gresham used over his reign, showing his endurance. He outdid the best wrestler in the world, and now is champion. Match Rating: 4/5 (****)

After the match, Gresham would snatch the belt, before personally putting it around Woods waist. How long with Josh Woods reign? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
