Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Are ‘Trying To Rebrand Themselves’ By Influencing US Politics
That is according to Arianne Chernock. Harry and Meghan have been taking significant steps to make that happen. Meghan, for her part, is passionate about requesting paid maternity leave for parents across the US.
So much so that she wrote a letter to Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the House of Representatives, to make that point. Harry, in contrast, has been speaking about the role of misinformation and its prevalence on social media.
He felt this was one of the reasons for the Capitol Hill riots. This begs the question, how realistic is this? Well, professor Arianne had this to say: “They’re trying to rebrand themselves.
“Meghan is adamant that hers is a human rights issue that she as an American can speak to, but the issue that she casts as non-political unfortunately plays out in the US context as a very partisan one.”
Nevertheless, Meghan has faced backlash in her attempts to do this. Some have called for the Royal family to have her title removed on the grounds that she has been interfering in political affairs which don’t concern her.
After all, she is not a politician. And yet, by virtue of the fact that Meghan is a household name, she does have influence that others may not have.
Bruce Freed, who happens to be from the Center for Political Accountability, stated: “Rightly or wrongly, she can do things average citizens can’t. It’s star power. It feeds the ego to get a call from a prominent person.”
Bruce went on to state that their decision to leave the Royal family may end up benefiting them in the US. Given that the country is a Republic, without a monarchy in place, they will be able more accepted.
By doing so, they would end up becoming more relatable. This may explain why Meghan has had more favourable press in the US than the UK.
Author David Hackett Fischer revealed: “There aren’t many royalists among my fellow citizens, but they may be intrigued by people with a title.”
