Right now, Sammy Guevara is the reigning and defending TNT Champion in AEW. He won the belt from the dominant Miro, one of only two men to defeat God’s Favorite Champion in the company. Since then, he’s happily taken on all comers, with ‘The Premiere Athlete’ Tony Nese up next. However, his reign might see the oldest challenger the TNT Championship could ever see – as Ric Flair seems keen on taking on Guevara.
Ric Flair & Sammy Guevara Attempt To Build Hype For A Match
This is a match that Flair was recently pitched, as a promoter in Israel would offer big money to see a match between the two. Seemingly both are on board, with Flair sending out a tweet about it earlier today. In classic Flair fashion, it’s as over the top as a tweet can get, stating the following.
“Like I Said… I’m Going To Die, And It’s Either Going To Be Next To My Hot Wife Or In The Ring Next To Sammy Guevara. Preparing For One Or The Other! WOOOOO!”
Guevara would respond claiming the match would be “Wrestling God vs. Spanish God”. This back and forth on Twitter seems to at least show both these men are interested, but fans are not. The reactions ranged from “Please no” to asking Charlotte to control his father. Given this, and other issues with Flair would AEW touch this match?
Flair Is Not Advertiser Friendly Right Now
Right now, Ric Flair is a name with a bit of heat on it. His old issues have come back into the spotlight, namely him flashing flight attendants on ‘The Plane Ride From Hell.’ This led him to lose his deal with American car insurance company CarShield, where he was featured in many ads. Because of this, him popping up in AEW right now is highly unlikely. They have honored many legends during their run on TV, with some men that Flair is very familiar with on Dynamite weekly in Sting, Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard.
If Flair wasn’t a wildcard right now in terms of reception from advertisers, it wouldn’t be outlandish to see him in the ring with Guevara. The match would have be carefully crafted to ensure the safety of the legend (and for the daredevil Guevara for that matter), but it could work. One route is doing a tag match, with Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara taking on Andrade El Idolo & Ric Flair, saving Flair from really having to do more than needed. However, if it happens – it’ll be overseas in Israel with the promoter who originally pitched it. It would be a curiosity more than anything, as possibly Ric Flair’s true final match.
