After the biggest move in the offseason with the acquisition of star point guard, Russell Westbrook, many thought that the Lakers had won a championship before the season started. After a 10-11 start, Frank Vogel’s time may be coming to an end.
As a fan, it is unthinkable to think that a coach that has won your favorite team an NBA championship two seasons ago would have his job in question.
Time Running Out for LA Lakers Head Coach?
Also, as a fan, it is reasonable to know that your favorite team is not an average NBA team. For teams like the Lakers, Celtics, Knicks, and a few other historic teams, losing for an extended time is not an option.
These teams have long histories of success and winning championships. It’s what their fanbases expect.
For LA Lakers head coach, Frank Vogel, he is seeing this first hand. With one of the most talented rosters with some of the biggest names in basketball, he isn’t getting it done.
Is it his fault? I don’t think it is, but in sports, whenever something is going wrong or the team is underperforming, the coach is usually the first person to take the blame.
Fans have been vocal about replacing Vogel, and even though he is a great coach, it may be time to do that.
The LA Lakers vs Frank Vogel
Why are the Lakers not as good as they seem on paper? Why isn’t a coach that recently won an NBA championship with a less talented roster unable to get it done with this one?
The answer is obvious if you follow sports in general. If you have a coach, they have something that they specialize in. Maybe a type of offense, defense, or even having great big men.
Frank Vogel was known as a great defensive-minded coach and it is what led the Lakers to their championship.
The difference between then and now is that Vogel had players that matched his coaching style. Now three of the players that played a huge role in the defensive identity of the team are gone.
There are some of the ones from the championship team that is still there, but they are older than they were then.
While he has more offensive firepower with the addition of Russell Westbrook and Carmello Anthony, they aren’t known for being defensive players.
While they have a few players coming back from injury soon, they will have to make do with what they have now because they don’t have the financial room to change it at the moment.
