Dana White isn’t entertaining the idea of another boxing vs MMA crossover event. At the very least, he won’t be seeing Kamaru Usman fight world champion Canelo Alvarez in the boxing ring.
Kamaru Usman alluded to a potential superfight with Canelo Alvarez in the boxing ring in the lead-up to his bout with Colby Covington. Dana White was quick to shut that conversation down. When asked about it at the UFC 268 post-fight press conference, his response was short and sharp.
Dana White Shuts Down Usman vs Canelo Boxing Match: “let’s stop this sh*t… He Don’t Want to Box Canelo!”
“I watched the Canelo fight tonight,” White said told reporters. “You don’t want to fight Canelo. C’mon, man, let’s stop this sh*t. If Canelo wants to come over here, let’s do it. He don’t want to box Canelo.”
Usman, when asked the same thing, disagreed. “Uh, Dana doesn’t know that.
Like I said, I want something that scares me. If I’m going to leave my daughter for another 12 weeks or more, it’s gotta be something that really, really gets me up. And I like that. I want to challenge myself.
I know a lot of people are going to talk down and say a lot of bullsh*t – ‘Oh yeah, you don’t want this, you don’t want that.’ Yeah, don’t get me wrong, he’s a master at what he does.
I love it and I respect it. I want to challenge myself in that way. The last time I was an underdog, we saw what happened. I get it, but we’re the ones who will take that risk. We’re the ones who are willing to go over there and take that risk. They won’t dare come over here and take that risk.”
Kamaru Usman showcased his championship mentality when he expanded on the point. For him, it’s not about glory or money, but a fresh challenge. “You guys don’t understand.
Unless you guys fight, you won’t understand the feeling that it is to be back there, all friggin’ day, the feeling that you have in your stomach. You want to take a sh*t. You want to piss. You want to sh*t. You want to piss. But nothing comes out. You’re nervous. Your stomach is in knots.
There’s something about that feeling, every aspect of it, you hate it. But then you’re done, and then the next day, it’s like, ‘It wasn’t that bad. I’ll do it again.’ There’s something about that feeling that’s addicting.
Canelo’s a big scary guy, and he knows I’m a big scary guy if he ever came over here.” Would you want to see Usman vs Canelo? Let us know in the comments.
