The AEW Tag team division is one of the deepest in the world of wrestling, and tonight four top ranked teams do battle. On one side, we have 2point0 and The Acclaimed, and the other sees Varsity Blondes & Jurass Express. Lots of talent in this one, but will they be able to work together when they all have the same end goal?
On commentary, Taz is hot over Dante Martin breaching his contract with Team Taz with his betrayal in the Dynamite Diamond Battle Royale. He will break news for Rampage tonight, possibly Ricky Starks & Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Dante Martin & CM Punk has been signed? On their way to the ring, The Acclaimed took another shot at the New York Islanders, adding to the pile started by CM Punk in his opening promo.
Jurassic Express & Varsity Blondes Come Out With Big Win, Eddie Kingston Keeps Issue With Daniel Garcia Alive
Jungle Boy kicked things off with Anthony Bowens, grappling for control in the middle of the ring before shoving Bowens off the ropes and taking a shoulder tackle. Caster would tag in and take a hurricanrana, before 2point0 would be taken out with a double armdrag. Jungle Boy cleared the ring, and tagged in Brian Pillman Jr. and Griff Garrison, who soared to the outside.
Caster was legal in the ring, and the dropkick into the spinebuster got a two count for Garrison. Pillman would tag in and rain down punches to the jaw of Caster, before he’d be sent out the ring and Matt Lee returned him to the ring. He was completely isolated as Bowens nailed down and heavy elbow strikes to the neck. Quick tags would keep everyone fresh, while Pillman would be getting more and more desperate for the tag.
The crowd was wanting it, but 2point0 & The Acclaimed didn’t care. Finally Pillman shoved off Parker, and shrugged off Lee before Bowens punted him in the jaw. Pillman would break past The Acclaimed, and Luchasarus was in. Big lariats and boots would follow, before they were stacked in the corner for some running splashes. The double lariat took down 2point0, before a double chokeslam was blocked by Max Caster.
Bowens would be chokeslammed onto Caster, before 2point0 kicked him into a tag. Jungle Boy was legal, as all hell broke loose with everyone hitting their signature blows. He’d get the DDT into Snare Trap on Caster, but Garcia would run a distraction. Eddie Kingston came out to take down Garcia, and Caster was tapped out with the Snare Trap. Kingston would be attacked by Garcia & 2point-, with Santana & Ortiz pulled into the issue.
A chaotic eight man tag match, with some fun action. Nothing special, but better than the opening battle royale. Match Rating: 2.75/5 (** 3/4)
The Young Bucks had a rough night at Full Gear 2021, one that left both men with some injuries. However, it’s time for them to get back to work, and they start their rebuilding process against Rocky Romero & Chuck Taylor of Best Friends & CHAOS.
Speaking of tag team action, FTR vs. Lucha Bros for the AEW World Tag Team Championships has been set for Rampage. This was planned for last week, but Rey Fenix had visa issues. At AAA Triplemania, FTR beat them in a ladder match to retain AAA Tag Team Championships – and now want to become two time AEW World Tag Team Championships.
The Young Bucks Are Back – Still Decked In Obnoxiously Pink Gear
Young Bucks brought Brandon Cutler & Adam Cole to the match, while Romero & Chuck brought Orange Cassidy. Romero kicked off the action with Nick Jackson, with Romero getting his wrist snatched but was easily able to slip free and nail a dropkick. Nick came in with a springboard armdrag but missed the tornado kick and was taken down with a deep armdrag.
Chuck would come in as Matt got a blind tag, taking him down with a rolling pinfall, before a deep armdrag. He’d be sent to the apron for a combo kick by The Young Bucks, before Rocky was sent to the outside as well. Now with control, they tried to slow the action down, but Romero came in with some heavy chops. Matt would hit a handstand-strutting-back rake. He’s no ELP.
Romero would fight his way out of the Bucks corner, getting the ol’ Ricky to Robert to get Chuck into the ring for a double DDT. Chuck soared with a flipping senton, making it look easy before taking a double superkick. Romero went for a crossbody off the apron, being caught, and put down for a superkick.
Rocky Romero Tries To Save The Day
They’d tease a double dive, but instead kissed the cheeks of Adam Cole at ringside. Chuck would take an elevated flipping senton on the apron, the pressure kept on Best Friends. Another elevated dive would come in the form of a Swanton Bomb. Throughout the break, Taylor kept trying to make the comeback, as this one passed the ten minute mark. The running knee strike in the corner was followed by a bulldog, with Romero saving the match.
Romero would have Nick spit in his face, before Chuck took a roundhouse kick to the skull. OC protected Romero at ringside, before Adam Cole nailed the pump kick. Chuck would finally make the comeback, now wearing sunglasses. Romero was in for the forever lariats, nailing about four in reality before a double hurricanrana. Matt took the Running Sliced Bread in the ring, getting a two count.
Nick nailed the facebuster, but missed a moonsault onto Chuck who nailed Sole Food. In the ring, Romero blocked the locomotive Northern Lights into a DDT. Adam Cole would try to get involved, only to be delayed by Orange Cassidy. Cutler was running a distraction, and Chuck would be able to nail a piledriver before Romero got the two count. Nick made the save, before Matt would take the rewind kick. He’d survive and set up the Meltzer Driver for the win.
The Young Bucks know Chuck Taylor & Rocky Romero well, and chemistry was second to none in this match. Their heel work and control built the tension up perfectly with a beatdown on Chuck Taylor, before snuffing out a fiery comeback from Romero. Nothing groundbreaking, but an excellent tag team match all the same. Match Rating: 3.75/5 (*** 3/4)
After the match, Wheeler YUTA tried to save his friends, only to be taken down. OC would take Panama Sunrise, before Trent made his return with the help of SUE! Spinal surgery was successful, and he’s never looked better. He’d take out The Elite one by one, before a five way huge. The old Roppongi Vice theme would play, the true return.
Will The Elite win the feud against Best Friends & CHAOS now that Trent is back? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
