Twice now, we’ve seen Hikaru Shida & Serena Deeb lock up. The first time around, Deeb was able to win and stop Shida from claiming her 50th win in AEW. Shida was able to win the rematch. This puts these two at an even record, and it’s time to see who is the better wrestler.
Their past two matches have seen some of the best technical wrestling that AEW has ever offered, and are perhaps the best matches their women’s division has had. Can the rubber match live up to the hype? Only one way to find out.
Hikaru Shida Gets Hit Before The Bell
Before the bell even rang, Deeb would attack Shida. They’d brawl into the ring, with Shida nailing a big dropkick to rock Deeb. The hammer throw across the ring saw Deeb send a rushing Shida over to the apron. Shida tried to vault in, before being caught by Deeb and having her legs wrapped up into a submission – but far too close to the ropes.
A quick dropkick would catch Deeb, before she took Shida into the corner. The foot was smashed off the ring steps, before Deeb applied the Figure Four Leg Lock around the corner post. A concentrated attack on the leg would follow up with a heel hook in the middle of the ring. She was unable to grapevine the leg, and Shida once again would get the ropes.
Some snapping dragon screws on the mat would tear at the knee, before a deathlock was applied, and Deeb fell back into a kneebreaker. Shida would get to her feet but on the terms of Deeb who would lock in an abdominal stretch. She’d counter out with a hip toss, before nailing some big downward forearm blows.
The Anger Of Serena Deeb Costs Her
A running Deeb was caught with a step up enziguri, before Shida nailed a big vertical suplex. Shida went up top, but Deeb knocked her down before getting a single leg crab with Shida hanging off the top. Deeb would hit a neckbreaker through the turnbuckle, and follow up with a powerbomb for a two count!
The Muta Lock would follow, but Shida was able to crawl and get the bottom rope. Deeb would nail a series of swinging neckbreakers, before Shida would somehow nail a Falcon Arrow out of nowhere. An axe kick would follow, before Deeb would look for Deebtox.
Shida countered out before ending up in the Single Leg Crab. Deeb would have to let go after some palm strikes, and out of anger would expose the turnbuckle. She’d end up kicked into it, and Shida got the jacknife pin for the win!
A really heated and back and forth match, really selling the grudge match set up. Deeb is amazing right now, for a lot of the same reasons as Bryan Danielson. Match Rating: 4.25/5 (**** 1/4)
