The legal issues with Duggar family continue even after the conviction of former Counting On star Josh Duggar. This time, his sister Jane Duggar is in the spotlight as she faces a misdemeanor charge of child endangerment.
Jana Duggar Catches Child Endangerment Charge
The incident in question occurred on September 9 and Duggar walked out of jail the following day after paying $430 in bail. Weeks later on September 23 where Duggar pleaded not guilty via a lawyer.
Jana Duggar Charged With Misdemeanor Endangering the Welfare a Child
On December 10, the younger sister of Josh Duggar was convicted of a misdemeanor count of “endangering the welfare of a child”. Currently, details of the charge are scarce as a result of a previous court opinion by Attorney General and Lt. Governor candidate Leslie Rutledge stating that details can be withheld from the public to protect minors involved in the offense.
As the charge is a misdemeanor offense, Jana Duggar is looking at up to 90 days in jail and up to $1,000 in fines if it is Class B—meaning that it was in the third degree. If it’s Class A or a second-degree misdemeanor, it could be up to a year in jail and up to $2,500 in fines.
Since we just know that it’s “endangering the welfare of a child” it could be either of two. The main difference besides the punishments is whether Duggar either knowingly engaged “in conduct creating a substantial risk of serious harm” which would make it second-degree. If she recklessly engaged in said conduct, it would be a third-degree offense.
Jana Duggar’s hearing is scheduled for January 10. Older brother Josh is reported to have requested his sentencing hearing to take place in February or sometime afterward.
