Last night was an emotional night within Ring of Honor. Final Battle: End Of An Era was a fantastic show, and that was due to everyone involved giving their best effort like always. Calling the action all night was the duo of Ian Riccaboni & Caprice Coleman, who were more lax than ever but still gave a ton of passion in every match – even when the crowd was drowning them out. With ROH shutting down until April 2022, Riccaboni has moved on from his role as the lead announcer of the company for now, and is ready for the next stage of his career.
Ian Riccaboni Is Joining The NJPW Strong Announce Team
Thankfully, his talents will still be used on a weekly basis. ROH has had a strong partnership with New Japan Pro Wrestling for the past few years, but NJPW has been moving into the United States with their weekly program “NJPW Strong”. There have been a handful of men who have done commentary there, with the recent shows being handled by the duo of Matthew Rehwoldt (fka Aiden English in WWE) & Alex Koslov.
They might be gaining a third man now, as Riccaboni has announced that he is joining the NJPW Strong Announce team – saying the following on Twitter.
“Hello! Very excited to break the news with @LVwithLove that I will be headed to Seattle for @njpwglobal to join the commentary booth for #njpwStrong! New Japan has always been a treasured partner of ROH and I am thrilled for this opportunity.”
The Missing Piece Of The NJPW Strong Puzzle
Since the start, NJPW Strong has been one of the best weekly shows when it comes to in-ring action, due to the stacked roster NJPW was able to start with and build from. Nowadays, men like Will Ospreay, Jay White and more top names can be frequently seen on the Saturday night program.
However, while the current commentary team is fine – they are far from memorable, and Koslov tends to get some dislike from fans. Adding in a steady voice like that of Ian Riccaboni can only help the show, and could be the last piece this show needs to be considered the best weekly pro wrestling program.
