Imperium are once again the top tag team in NXT, and this time they intend to have a reign worth remembering. Their first big challenge comes tonight, as they take on the odd couple team of Von Wagner & Kyle O’Reilly. Despite being a fresh team, O’Reilly is the tag team expert of his generation, and Wagner is pure potential. But will it be enough to claim gold tonight?
Fabian Aichner Shows A Stupid Level Of Power
Aicher & Bartel would hit the ring looking like champions, with Bartel starting alongside O’Reilly. They’d lock up, and Bartel went for the arm and got wrist control. O’Reilly tried to roll free, but would have to work harder. He’d look to send Bartel over with a backdrop, before being blocked, but landing right into a cross armbreaker attempt.
Aichner got a tag, and would nail some heavy strikes before being taken down. Von Wagner would tag in and match the power of Aichner, landing a backdrop driver and running headbutt drop for a two count. O’Reilly tagged back in, and was able to block a chop into an armbar attempt. Bartel ran a quick distraction, and O’Reilly was dropped with a snap suplex. More suplexes came from Bartel, before the German would jump into a knee strike.
Despite being rattled, he’d be able to keep control and nail a PK to O’Reilly. Wagner tagged in and was kicked away, before Aichner came in to match the power. He’d pick Wagner out of the sky into a fireman’s carry slam, absolutely insane power from Aichner. Bartel tried for an arm drag but Wagner held his ground before tagging in O’Reilly.
O’Reilly would really find his rhythm at this point of the match – moving seamlessly between wear down attacks and strikes, before being dropped with a very hard lariat from Bartel. Aichner would tag and keep the beatdown coming. O’Reilly would weather the storm and stop a last second attack from Aichner to make the tag.
Imperium Show The Ring Is Sacred
Some big high running knee strikes and some powerslams would show the potential of Wagner – before sending both opponents to the outside. He’d follow out with more lariats and a backdrop onto the apron, with O’Reilly hitting the diving knee off the apron to keep Aichner down. Bartel would take an Angle Slam in the ring, but kicked out at two.
Imperium attempted Imperial Bomb on Wagner, only to be countered with a chokeslam before O’reilly tagged in. He’d come off the top with a knee drop to the knee of Bartel, and slapped on a kneebar! Bartel made the ropes, but leaving nothing to chance, Aichner nailed a triangle moonsault perfectly.
O’Reilly would slap on a choke, but Aichner blocked into a suplex. It was moved into a small package, only getting two. O’Reilly & Aichner slammed into each other with lariats, before falling down. Bartel took the High/Low strike combo, but was able to kick out before three.
Both teams were running on fumes, but the inexperience of Wagner would show as he tumbled out of the ring. Aichner took him out with a big crossbody, before walking into a brainbuster from O’Reilly, who want right into a crossarmbreaker. Aichner tried to block but ended up in a triangle choke, but he’d fight to stay awake, lifted O’Reilly up and made the tag – setting up Imperial Bomb for the win!
Match Rating: 4/5 (****)
After the match, Wagner tried to turn on O’Reilly and got beaten down before flashing the Undisputed Era sign. Will O’Reilly have one more match in NXT? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
