When you have two title belts floating around, you eventually need to bring them back together. That is the plan tonight, as Cody Rhodes defends his TNT Championship in a ladder match – with Sammy Guevara‘s interim championship also hanging high above the ring. We know Guevara isn’t scared of taking risks in a match like this, but is Cody?
Giving Their Bodies For The TNT Championship
With their entrances streamed on social media ahead of this show, we’d waste no time getting into this one. A quick handshake showed some respect from both men, before Guevara used his speed to drop Rhodes with a corkscrew dropkick. Guevara would have the ankle picked, and had to fight free before a potential Figure Four Leg Lock. Rhodes would waste some time taunting, and fans were wanting a ladder to get into the mix.
Guevara would avoid the Tiger Driver and almost set up the GTH – before blocking a throat thrust from Rhodes. A ladder would finally join the mix, before Rhodes stopped Guevara from getting it to the ring. Rhodes grabbed a steel chair, but was unable to use it before they’d brawl into a crowd.
Guevara was driven back towards the ringside area with a lariat, before he leapt back towards Rhodes with a cutter. Now grabbing one of the tallest ladders he could find, Guevara finally got a ladder into the ring as Rhodes would get back into the ring. Rhodes would slip on the apron after being thrown over the top rope, with Guevara hitting him in the face with a ladder.
Guevara would nearly grab the gold before Rhodes was able to save the match, pulling Guevara down. Scorpio Sky & Dan Lambert were watching on from the cheap seats, as Rhodes set up a superplex from the top of the giant ladder. Neither man feels good after a fall like that, but Guevara took the worst of it.
Sammy Guevara Becomes The Undisputed TNT Champion
On the outside of the ring, Rhodes used his weight belt as a whip before jamming a ladder into the midsection. In the ring, Rhodes set up a ladder upside down before dropping Guevara abdomen first across the hinges. He’d follow up with a Figure Four Leg Lock through a ladder, doing some insane damage to the knees to Guevara.
Rhodes would finally set up a ladder in the middle of the ring, before noticing Guevara finding his feet. Some heavy chops would take Guevara back to his knees, before some big lariats. Rhodes shut him back down by throwing a ladder at his face. Guevara would leapfrog off a ladder to drop Rhodes with a huge cutter before Rhodes grabbed gold..
Rhodes was trapped under the ladder, and Guevara started his climb – only for Rhodes to tip him off. Both men would climb ladders in the middle of the ring, only for Rhodes to nail Cross Rhodes off the ladder. Guevara was down and possibly out, and Rhodes started his climb. Rhodes took too long, and Guevara grabbed the pole supporting the titles before both men fell to the mat.
Fuego Del Sol would come out to stop Rhodes from going too far with an attack on Guevara’s leg, before taking a Tiger Driver in the ring. Guevara springboarded in to attack Cody, and sent him outside to nail the GTH. Rhodes set up a ladder earlier in the match between the ring and barricade, and was now placed across it – with Guevara climbing a twelve foot ladder and risking it all with a falling Swanton Bomb.
Guevara started the climb in the ring, and Rhodes was somehow there to meet him. They’d battle on top, and Guevara used the belts to take Rhodes out, before claiming the belts and ending this one.
