Adam Cole has done the work, and is now ranked #1 in the AEW men’s division. With reDRagon to back him up, Cole is as dangerous as ever. Hangman Page has to be in his view, as Cole is here to be AEW World Heavyweight Champion. Tonight, he’s here to open the show – and perhaps will figure out where he stands with The Young Bucks, who didn’t join him in the ring.
Who’s Ready For Story Time With Adam Cole?
2021 was a great year for Cole, Fish & O’Reilly. Cole himself is undefeated in singles action in AEW, and has never been pinned or submitted since coming to AEW. Making things better, he’s got the best two men in AEW in his corner. It’s a new era in AEW, and we’re all seeing it.
The Young Bucks & Brandon Cutler would hit the ring, even if Cole didn’t invite them. O’Reilly would remind them they also weren’t invited to Jacksonville, and they didn’t need their help to defeat Best Friends. Young Bucks were here to make it clear that AEW is their country, not reDRagons. They’re here to get the belts back – while reDRagon want to claim them for the first time in 2022.
Fish would say that no one will keep them from the tag team titles, not even Young Bucks. Cole said that this is what AEW needs, what the Elite need – some friendly competition. A team like Best Friends couldn’t handle in-fighting. As if on cue, Best Friends hit the ring. OC would lead the charge of Yuta, Trent & Chuck.
The ring was looking packed enough for a Battle Royal, and Cole called for their annoying music to stop before OC took Cole down and rained down some ground and pound. The brawl was breaking out all across the arena, but Cutler sacrificed himself to allow Cole to hit a low blow. Kris Statlander made the save on OC, and Cole wouldn’t hit her… but Baker certainly would. Baker would help Cole set up a superkick and The Boom – and it’s clear Baker is not staying away from her husband on TV anymore.
CM Punk Tests The Skills Of Wardlow
Last week on AEW Dynamite, MJF was ready to start his plans to go undefeated in 2022. CM Punk would have other plans, forcing a DQ by attacking Shawn Dean – and starting MJF with a losing record. Instead of getting a match with MJF, he would get a match with Wardlow booked, but beating Wardlow will give MJF very little to hide behind.
Lately Wardlow has been winning matches with an onslaught of powerbombs, and has an 18 match win streak. With MJF in his corner tonight, he looked ready for his biggest match ever. MJF didn’t run at the sound of Cult of Personality, and CM Punk is on a 8 match win streak coming into this one. CM Punk got a great reaction from the crowd, but Punk was trying to get to MJF – but Wardlow made a great human shield.
Wardlow shoved Punk off into the corner with ease, before taking the headlock. Punk was flung off, before throwing some strikes in the corner. Wardlow was able to fight free and use some of his power. Punk would almost get the GTS, before being blocked and almost dropped with a powerbomb.
After heading outside to clear his head, Punk would get into the ring to apply a hammerlock – before being driven into the corner for some shoulder thrusts. Punk almost got free for some strikes, but was whipped across the ring and to the floor with one hard throw. MJF would gloat a bit at a fallen Punk, who didn’t notice – too focused on the match at hand.
Powerbomb After Powerbomb Land On Punk
Punk would linger on the apron and sucker Wardlow in for some shoulder strikes before being almost caught into a spinebuster. Wardlow would block an attempt at a tornado DDT, tossing Punk aside. Punk blocked another powerbomb attempt and followed up with some kicks, before a springboard lariat finally took Wardlow off his feet.
Wardlow fired back with a powerbomb, after MJF ran a quick distraction. A second powerbomb quickly followed, and Punk was falling into the same trap as many others. Wardlow called for a third, and a forth would come… and a fifth. MJF called for more, so two more powerbombs landed.
Punk rolled towards the ropes to get free of the damage, but MJF called for a powerbomb through the table at ringside, and Wardlow obliged. MJF would insult Punk, who was able to crawl to the ring before the count of ten. Wardlow was still fresh though, while Punk couldn’t find his feet. MJF called for another powerbomb, and Wardlow was getting fed up. Punk was dead weight seemingly, but he’d manage the inside cradle to pin Wardlow!
After the match, MJF would get into the ring to try and insult Wardlow, after MJF cost him the biggest match of his career. Wardlow wouldn’t take the abuse, but Shawn Spears intervened.
When will Wardlow turn on MJF? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
