There’s no surprise that Jim Cornette has another bone to pick with AEW, and this time he singled out Adam Cole and his antics with the Elite.
AEW has embraced the Indie style of wrestling more than other major promotions, and they’ve had pretty good success with it over the last two years.
But it’s the video game type of wrestling that’s focused on spot fests that has turned some traditional fans off while other detractors are loyal to other promotions.
Jim Cornette falls into the former category as he’s the old school type that prefers the realistic storytelling of years past, similar to Bret Hart and others from that era.
He was also a huge fan of Adam Cole in NXT, but not so much in the AEW.
What’s changed
The best place to start is what’s changed, and it could be something as simple as what we’re seeing is part of the real Adam Cole.
He proved he’s one of the best in the ring and can tell great stories, but in AEW he’s been more of a goof like the Elite.
We’re not saying that in a negative way as it’s great to see some goofiness as it helps everyone relax and enjoy the show, and seeing the talent really enjoy themselves is an added bonus.
On his podcast, Cornette shared his thoughts on Cole and they weren’t the most flattering.
“Adam Cole was one of the best performers in the business in NXT. I looked forward to his matches and interviews and now he’s doing bad skits with jobbers and mascots.
And, Adam, I don’t know why that you’re not embarrassed to be doing what you’re doing and interacting with these childish clowns, but you should be. You should be very embarrassed. And this is, he’s completely wasted. They’ve completely wasted Adam Cole.”
While his may not be the most popular opinion out there, fans have echoed Cornette’s thoughts online, claiming AEW ruined Cole.
Some had even said he was overrated in the WWE (because it was the WWE) and that he’s underrated in AEW.
What does this mean? The thought is that for some, Cole’s true potential is somewhere in the middle as AEW tries to figure out how to book him.
Of course, these are nothing but opinions in what’s become a heated exchange between AEW and WWE fans online.
In the end, Cole’s trying to entertain us like any other wrestler and he deserves kudos for that. But could he be more? Time will tell.
