Last week at New Year’s Evil – Bron Breakker was able to do what no one else has ever done in NXT. He defeated Tommaso Ciampa to win the NXT Championship. It was a dominant victory for Breakker, and now he’s on top of NXT. Tonight, our new champion will kick off the show – and likely get an idea on who will be stepping up first as a challenger.
Bron Breakker Is Ready For The Championship Grind, Santos Escobar Has Eyes On Gold
Breakker would hit the ring to a mixed reaction from the crowd. Grabbing a microphone would just prompt a mix of “You Deserve It” and “No You Don’t” chants. Breakker would hype up just how good Ciampa is behind the scenes and in the ring, and last week after the match ended, he’d pay respects to the father of Breakker at ringside.
He knows that he has big shoes to fill as NXT Champion, but the drive to keep pushing further every week. Anyone who steps up to the ring to stop him will have to settle with knowing that he’s already done anything they did that day. Santos Escobar would make his way to the ring, but for the match with Xyon Quinn… but took a long look at that NXT Championship.
Elektra Lopez Screws Over Xyon Quinn
Since joining Legado Del Fantasma, Elektra Lopez has helped them thrive. However, tonight they risk losing her to Xyon Quinn. He caught her eye, but refused to join the faction. Tonight, Santos Escobar meets Quinn in singles action – and to the winners goes the spoils, which are the manager services of Lopez.
Before the bell even rang, Quinn would hit a cross chop on Escobar. This cheap shot allowed Quinn to take early control – and a big lariat would follow. Escobar was getting beaten down around the ring, and a toss to the turnbuckle had him rocked. Heavy shots and a biel throw would follow, and Quinn was looking as unstoppable as Bron Breakker.
Being taken to the outside, Quinn was able to throw Escobar around out there too. Wilde & Mendoza would run a distraction – and Escobar nailed the Arrow From The Depths Of Hell, and finally got some offense in. In the ring, he’d attack the legs of Quinn, seeking to take out the vertical base and the bulk of his power.
An ankle lock would be applied, but Quinn was able to get free before a chop block to the knee. Lopez was now down at ringside, and Escobar focused on that left knee with a dropkick. A running double knee strike attempt was blocked, and Quinn once again tossed Escobar across the ring.
Another distraction allowed Escobar to regain control. Lopez stopped Escobar from running Quinn into the ring post on the floor. Quinn was distracted by Lopez, who nailed a low blow as he looked away from her. Back in the ring, Phantom Driver landed for the win.
