Right now, there’s at least one man who wants out of his WWE contract. Mustafa Ali recently would request his release on Twitter, stating that he can’t deliver the message he hopes to give to fans of professional wrestling while in WWE. Right now, WWE isn’t even using him – instead paying him to sit home. Despite this, as WWE have reportedly denied his request to be released from his contract.
Mustafa Ali Isn’t The First To Be Placed Into Limbo By WWE
Once these reports started to circulate, Ali would respond on Twitter – by posting a picture from The Dark Knight, featuring The Joker and a burning pile of money. WWE are fickle when it comes to releasing their talent – and this is another sign of that. They will have talent sitting at home for years instead of having them go elsewhere – with notable cases being the late Brodie Lee and PAC. Both men wanted out of their WWE deal, but were denied their release.
Andrade almost ended up in a similar boat, but due to his relationship with Charlotte Flair – his release granted faster than most. There are numerous other examples of this over the history of WWE, and Mustafa Ali will not be the last to be denied their release.
Ali’s Contract Length Is Unclear
It’s hard to gauge exactly how long Ali has left on his current WWE contract. Unless an agreement is made, he will be spending it at home with his newborn child – but away from the ring and the spotlight. Modern WWE deals are generally for 3 years, and Ali likely signed a new deal in either 2019 or 2020. This gives some sense of the timeline between now, and when Ali will be free to wrestle wherever he pleases.
WWE have very little to gain by keeping Ali in contract limbo like this, and it’s likely he’s in the next mass releases from WWE. Fans hope to see him in AEW or NJPW once he’s free from his WWE deal, and it’d be hard for him not to succeed in a company where he can find some character focus.
