The 2022 Royal Rumble has been getting blasted by fans ever since the cameras stopped rolling this past Saturday. It’s been called one of the worst WWE PPV’s to date, and easily the weakest Royal Rumble in company history. Part of this came from a lack of excitement in both Royal Rumble matches. The women’s match had legends and names from the past, but everyone was announced ahead of time – taking all the fun away from the match. Meanwhile, the men’s match had no fun callbacks – even though names like Sean Waltman were ready to go.
WWE Weren’t Interested In Having Sean Waltman In The Royal Rumble
Back in December on an episode of The Bump – Sean Waltman would declare that he was medically cleared to return to the ring. He also made it very clear he’d love to enter the Royal Rumble in 2022. Despite all this, and WWE having multiple possible gimmicks to run with him – including 123 Kid & X-Pac, the match went forward without his involvement.
While speaking to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Waltman had the following to say.
“As far as the Royal Rumble, I gave them a heads up I’d be ready if they wanted me. I wasn’t actively campaigning for it – I wasn’t going to do that. But I let them know, and I guess they weren’t interested.”
Making His GCW Debut Later This Month Alongside Joey Janela
However, all is not bad for the fans of Waltman – as he’s going to make his return to the ring later this match. On February 25th at GCW Welcome To Heartbreak he teams with Joey Janela to take on Matt Cardona & Brian Myers. Waltman was around for the wild match between Cardona & Janela from The WRLD on GCW – helping Janela out against a two on one attack.
Fans don’t know what to expect from Waltman, but he intends to give 100% – saying the following.
“I did pretty well in this industry when I wasn’t clear-headed, so think of what I can do with a healthy mind and healthy body. don’t know how many matches I have left in me, so I’m going to go out there and have some great f—ing matches. I want to go out on my terms. My last matches, I was going through the greatest hits. It was all nostalgia. This is going to be different.”
