Vanessa Bryant, wife of Basketball player-Kobe Bryant. Since the death of the 41-year-old pro player, a lot of awards and recognition has been given to his wife. On Tuesday, February 8, she was honored at the 3rd annual sports power brunch, which was presented by Champion. She then shared that she was going to “keep the spirit of Kobe Bryant alive.”

The award ceremony was focused on powerful women in sports and entertainment. Vanessa received the award for her involvement and great work in Mamba & Mambacita Sports foundation. In her speech during the award ceremony, she said that she was concerned with ‘elevating the playing field.’
She explained that it is important that the way young male and female athletes view each other. “As a mother of four strong girls, I care deeply about not only leveling the playing field for girls, but elevating it. I want to instill in our young people that girls are just as good as boys and often times better.”
Vanessa is a mother of four daughters, Natalia, Bianka, Capri and Gianna—who died at 13 in the same helicopter crash that killed her father, Kobe Bryant. Gianna was also an active Basketball player, and was many times awarded for being good at the game.
“I want to provide young girls with opportunities to showcase their talents and dominate in their fields.” The 39-year-old mother of 4 stated. “It was important to Kobe, it was exemplified by Gigi and it is something for which Natalia, Bianka, Capri and I will always fight for.”
The Mamba and Mambacita sports Foundation has its mission as “creating positive impact for underserved athletes and boys and girls in sport.” It is said that Kobe and Gigi’s vision is to create a sporting environment where boys and girls have the same opportunities to pursue their dreams in sport. To achieve this, Vanessa explained that boys and girls run drills together; “this way, they see each other as teammates.”
