Comedian Kathy Griffin Recalls Her Prior Substance Abuse Issues-‘I Tried To Kill Myself’
The 61-year-old has been through a lot in her life. While she is known for her witty humor, the very fact of the matter is that her work has divided public opinion. This was most visibly seen in the following picture.
In the picture here, we can see that Kathy is holding a decapitated head which is full of blood. This was meant to have represented former United States President Donald Trump.
But given that Trump was elected into office on the back end of people becoming fed up with the Democrats, she faced a lot of opposition for making such a crude gesture. And that is the moment that Cathy considered taking her own life.
In an interview with The New York Times’ Sway podcast, Kathy said: “I tried to kill myself. I think that I’m probably an addictive person, you know.”
Despite that scary prospect, the comedian did take a light-hearted view to everything that she had been through.
Although this could be viewed as a self-defense mechanism in order to keep herself together, it could equally be viewed as Kathy trying to ignore her problems.
But that did not stop her from mocking the fact that she became an addict at such a late age, even if it did destroy business ventures that she would have otherwise capitalised on.
She added: “I didn’t know what to do with myself. I was just such a crazy workaholic. And all of a sudden, I had this time on my hands, and then I was depressed.”
The response on social media was very positive. People were inspired by how Kathy had managed to overcome her demons and become one of the most iconic comedians of this generation.
One person wrote: “Hearing your voice today was everything to me! I am a huge fan and I wish you nothing but the best. Whenever you get back on the road, I will def be in your audience. Be well friend.”
