HBO’s Euphoria has been branded a ‘toxic’ workplace according to an insider on set.
HBO’s Euphoria Accused Of Having A Toxic Working Environment On Set-‘Felt Like We Didn’t Exist As People’
The show, which stars Zendaya as a troubled teen trying to overcome her substance abuse issues, has been praised.
So much so that HBO recently announced that the show would be renewed for a third season, while the viewing figures showed record ratings with only ‘Game of Thrones’ outdoing it on HBO.
While that may be the case, it seems that behind the scenes, things were not all too well. According to an insider, they told the Daily Beast that they were overworked while also not being given the appropriate care.
One worker said: “It got to a point where I was like, I’m still a person, I’m still human. Please let me go to the restroom.
“Don’t tell me I can’t go for 30 minutes or tell me I can’t get a snack when you’re not going to feed me and it’s 4 a.m. It just very much felt like we didn’t exist as people.”
Nevertheless, HBO denied doing anything of the sort. Although they recognised that the welfare of workers is important, they maintained that they had done the utmost in ensuring that people were allowed to express their grievances and have them resolved.
In a statement in response, a representative for the network said: “The well-being of cast and crew on our productions is always a top priority.
“The production was in full compliance with all safety guidelines and guild protocols.” This is not the first time that the show has come under heavy fire.
Just recently, it was also accused of glamorising drug addiction through the manner in which it approached the topic. This forced the show’s star Zendaya to speak out and passionately defend the series.
In reality, the only thing left to do is let the investigation run its course. Outside of that, it is simply a case of what the network is saying against that of the workers.
And unless an investigation concludes otherwise, or if other stars speak out, we are none the wiser. So there you have it folks. Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
