Recently, Tony Khan made one of his biggest moves yet when he purchased Ring of Honor from Sinclair Broadcast Group. This made it so AEW & ROH are linked, and Khan has complete access to the ROH Tape Library. ROH shows are set to start once again on April 1st with Supercard of Honor – but no one knows how deep the link between AEW & ROH will go – but Matt Hardy has an idea of what could be done.
Matt Hardy Was Not Shocked That Tony Khan Bought ROH – Thinks It Will Become Developmental For AEW
While speaking on his podcast, The Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy – he’d give his thoughts on the future of Ring of Honor now that it’s owned by Tony Khan. He had the following to say.
“”I mean, almost nothing shocks me in this day and age, but I thought it was it was pretty epic that Tony Khan bought this and you know, the first thing I heard about it, he said, ‘I got all your footage from ROH,’ which is a total Tony Khan line, but it’s cool. Once again, I think it will ensure that like the Ring of Honor footage, which they did a lot of trailblazing stuff themselves is gonna stay alive, and be circulated, and it will live on forever.
I would almost guess Ring of Honor will almost be like a developmental for AEW. I feel like ROH would be like our NXT in their old system. Think they’ll have guys that can go work there exclusively and they’ll pull guys up. Also just having two brands like that, if you do it the right way, you can have someone on one brand for a long time, then once they are kind of getting once their programs are played out, you can switch them to the other brands. So it keeps helps keep acts fresh, too.
Hardy would go on to say that he has no issues becoming an agent in Ring of Honor.
Splitting The AEW Roster Would Help The Overlooked Names
Right now, AEW has an issue with their roster finding it hard to make it to TV. The likes of Tony Nese, Ruby Soho, Jake Atlas, and more have all been signed to AEW contracts, but show up on TV very rarely. Splitting the roster, and assigning some ROH would give them a chance to shine and develop.
Regardless, ROH is in good hands with Tony Khan at the helm. Considering the mood following Final Battle 2021 was that this company was as good as dead – even their future being secure is amazing news.
