Master Wato has the biggest match of his career tonight, as he takes on the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion – Kazuchika Okada. Getting here with a first round bye, Wato has a chance to prove he’s one of the best in the world.

Recently, we’ve seen Wato push El Desperado to the limits over the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, and remember – Wato is the age of Okada from when The Rainmaker Shock happened. On that night, 99% of fans expected Hiroshi Tanahashi to beat Kazuchika Okada, but no match is ever a sure win before the match is over.

Master Wato Needs To Rely On The Showmanship Of Kazuchika Okada

Wato would use his speed to apply the side headlock on Okada, before being shoved off. Okada is likely to give the fans a show here instead of just running through Wato – and that’s what Wato has to rely on to get the win. He needs to find a mistake and press it. There would be no mistake in the side headlock takeover from Okada, which was turned into a neck lock with the legs.

Wato got the ropes, and Okada would give the cocky break – only for Wato to get the armdrag. Okada would be cut down to size with the rapid strikes of Wato, before a basement dropkick to the head… and Wato failed to even get a one count. Keeping on the attack, Wato would fail to keep the pressure on.

Okada was able to hit a neckbreaker, before buckling the knees to Wato with a forearm shot. Wato would shoot back with a leg lariat before the springboard uppercut forearm. Okada was sent to the outside, and Wato followed with the senton over the top rope. Back in the ring, Wato got a two count – before applying the Vendaval submission hold – only for Okada to find the ropes.

One Rainmaker Sends Master Wato Out Of The New Japan Cup

Heading to the floor, Wato would throw some kicks before being spiked on his head with the DDT. Back into the ring, Okada would hit the shotgun dropkick – before applying the Money Clip. Wato would find the bottom rope with his foot, before Vendaval was used to counter the neckbreaker.

Okada would be helpless as Wato moved into the Yoshi-Tonic, before going right back into Vendaval Wato would fail to get the submission, before looking for Recientemente. Okada would stand tall, before being rocked with a kick and hit with a German Suplex for a two count.

Wato would head to the top rope, but Okada pulled him back down into the ring. Okada would call for Wato to bring the fire, before shutting him down with a dropkick. Top rope Elbow Drop landed, before Rainmaker pose was struck. Wato would block into a Five Star Clutch, getting a two count before a headkick.

Okada would block Recientemente, hit the Landslide – and finish strong with Rainmaker. Just putting his hand on the chest of Wato, he was able to get the three count. Okada will now head to the third round to face Taichi.

Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
