Jonathan Gresham is now the Undisputed ROH World Champion, following his victory over Bandido at ROH Supercard of Honor. Now, with ROH being owned by Tony Khan – he will make his way to AEW for the first time ever, as he defends the ROH World Championship against a former champion in Dalton Castle. Castle has had back issues for the past few years, but will look to turn the clock back tonight and claim gold once again.
Dalton Castle Has The Boys Back For His AEW Debut
With the Tate Twins aka The Boys at his side tonight, Castle was back in rare form tonight – and the crowd was not quite sure what to make of Castle during this entrance. However, once the bell rings – he’s as great as anyone – even Gresham.
Code of Honor would be adhered too – before Castle grabbed a wrist lock. Gresham blocked into a side headlock takeover, with Castle blocking into a neck lock. Castle slipped out of the ring and was fanned off by The Boys. Back in the ring, Gresham would be juggled in a gutwrench suplex before being dumped on his neck – and suddenly the crowd understood Castle.
Gresham would use his powerful legs to shove Castle away to get some space, before taking a hard back elbow and a lariat. Castle would be taken down with a rope assisted hurricanrana – before Gresham nailed a dropkick to the face.
Gresham would slow the pace down – and worked over the wrist of Castle. He’d take him down to the mat before bending the wrist back – and moving right into a tight hammerlock. An armbreaker would follow, sending Castle to the ropes for a breather. Simple wrestling is the trademark of Gresham, but he can make any move into a potential finisher.
Jonathan Gresham Is Perhaps The Greatest Technical Wrestler In The World
Castle would head to the outside, and when Gresham followed – he’d send Castle onto the apron. A spinning hurricanrana would follow – before Castle & Gresham would dodge strikes in the ring. Castle would take a chop, but come back with the exploder suplex.
Gresham was tossed twice more – Castle getting a near fall soon after. Bang-A-Rang was attempted, but Gresham slipped free to the ropes. Gresham would be nearly hit with the Bang-A-Rang a second time – but was able to block into a pinfall. They’d roll around the mat with pinfall attempts, before Castle would uncork a heavy lariat.
Gresham dodged a knee strike in the corner before applying the Octopus Hold. In the middle of the ring, Castle had no choice but to verbally submit. He was caught by Gresham, and there is no shame in that.
After the bell – Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh would hit the ring. Singh hit a double chokeslam on the boys, toss Castle aside – before Lethal hit the Lethal Injection on Gresham. Lee Moriarty tried to make the save, but was tossed aside. Matt Sydal tried to use a crutch – but Singh broke it like a twig.
Can anyone stop this trio? Samoa Joe would look to answer that, and with a steel pipe in hand – they were sent running.
