Back at AEW Full Gear 2020, fans finally had a chance to see FTR wrestle The Young Bucks, and it was nothing short of amazing. Now, we get the rematch – as Young Bucks look to claim two sets of tag team gold from FTR. Both the AAA & ROH World Tag Team Championships are on the line – after FTR won the ROH belts from The Briscoes at Supercard of Honor. FTR were ready to defend right there in an ROH ring – but Young Bucks view themselves as bigger than ROH, and fans need to tune into AEW Dynamite to see them in action.
A Rematch 18 Months In The Making
After the introductions by the voice of Ring of Honor, Bobby Cruise – this match had a chance to get started. Wheeler would kick action off against Matt, bringing him right into the corner. Matt would turn things around, before being shoved across the ring.
We’d get a loud FTR chant as Wheeler sent Matt out of the ring with a shoulder tackle, before making a tag to Harwood. Matt got a desperate tag, before Harwood took the fight right to Nick. He’d pull the headband off, before catching him with a big scoop slam.
Matt would trade blows with the aptly named ‘Dax the Axe’ before this one turned into a big brawl. Young Bucks would double team Harwood with a hip toss into dropkick, before a second to Wheeler. Wheeler shot back with a lariat, before applying a sharpshooter.
Nick tried to break it with a superkick, but Harwood got him in the sharpshooter as well. A gouge to the eyes would get Matt free, before he’d nail a quick russian leg sweep and diving elbow – a Bret Hart special – capped off by the signature taunt of Hart.
Tag Team Excellence
Young Bucks would try to isolate Wheeler, slowing down the pace with a front headlock. Wheeler would fight to his feet, but be taken right back down to the mat. Matt tagged in to keep the pressure on, applying a headlock before being dropped with a suplex.
Wheeler would take down both Matt & Nick, before looking for the tag. Nick would hit the superkick on Harwood as Wheeler jumped for the tag, and it was perfectly timed. A rare miscue from Young Bucks would see Nick kick Matt in the face.
Harwood hit the ring with some fury, sending Nick to the floor with a lariat before getting a near fall off a small package. Matt & Harwood traded pin attempts before Harwood hit a punch fake into a piledriver. Young Bucks would block the powerplex, before hitting a bulldog – dropkick combo. Harwood took a heavy kick to the chest, before nailing a brainbuster on the floor. In the ring, Wheeler hit a Gory Bomb and got a near fall.
Big Rig was blocked, and Wheeler would take a low blow as the referee was distracted. Young Bucks nailed Big Rig themselves, but Wheeler refused to lose to his team’s own finisher. More Bang For Your Bucks would land, but Wheeler would again survive.
FTR Defeat The Young Bucks
Matt Jackson would get desperate, trying for a few quick covers, but Wheeler refused to stay down. Nick would try to use one of the ROH Tag team belts, before Harwood started a tug of war. Wheeler got cracked and rolled up, but Harwood made the save.
Harwood took a double superkick, before Wheeler would take BTE Trigger – and get his foot on the bottom rope to make the save at the last possible second. Young Bucks would be furious, but would have to keep trying.
The Meltzer Driver was blocked as Dax caught Nick into a slingshot powerbomb, and Wheeler hit a tombstone. The tag was made, and we’d see the FTR Trigger, before Big Rig for the win!
