When it comes to dream matches, there hasn’t been a time where they were more likely to happen than right now, and that’s thanks to AEW for existing and WWE for releasing their talent.
It sounds harsh, but that’s the formula that’s allowed AEW and Indie promotions to grow and begin thriving again over the last couple of years.
While the releases the WWE made can be argued whether they were good or bad, there’s no denying they let plenty of top flight talent go, and one that’s really going to hurt them is releasing Jeff Hardy.
Opening the door
The news for the last month was about how the WWE opened the Forbidden Door to allow Impact Wrestling Knockouts Champion Mickie James to enter the Royal Rumble.
Prior to that they slipped and jammed the door open in a different way when they released Jeff following a drug test he reportedly failed and then he refused to go to rehab.
Matt Hardy has stated that Jeff didn’t fail the test and the WWE, realizing their mistake, tried to resign Jeff and even offered him a HOF induction in 2022 if he came back.
He refused and the WWE is about to enter a nightmare while the rest of us will enjoy some dream matches.
Bring in the Young Bucks
The Young Bucks are the greatest tag team in the world currently, and Matt and Nick Jackson show no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
They’re this generation’s Hardy Boys, and many of us would love to see the two teams face each other.
And this could very well happen.
With Jeff’s release, he can sign with AEW after his 90 day non-compete clause ends and he’ll bring the Hardy Boys WWE fans to AEW and we’ll get to see the brothers together again.
With any luck, Tony Kahn has things laid out for when/if that happens and we could see as big a pop when they come out as their return in the WWE a couple of years back.
Seeing the Hardy Boys and Young Bucks in a feud would be awesome, and it’d be a great passing of the torch moment we haven’t gotten yet on a television network.
It’ll allow both teams to do what they do best, and we’ll hopefully get a couple of matches between them so we can savor the moment.
There are so many possibilities if Jeff goes to AEW that it’s one of the best possible signings the company could make strictly from a fan perspective, and it’d be a pretty solid business move as well.
