The Mapson sisters from Oklahoma were sentenced to federal prison for a murder plot on one of the sisters’ exes in 2018. In a wild, overly planned plot, the murder attempt took the trio from Oklahoma to Alabama where the victim lived with his wife.

Tierzah Mapson (29) had a child with the victim in 2013 but that relationship obviously didn’t last. Her ex would move on with his life but apparently, Tierzah couldn’t and brought sisters Elisa (25) and Charis (33) into a very drawn-out plot to murder him.

She remained in contact with her ex over visitation with the child and set up an ambush in Walker County, in central Alabama, according to AL.com. The parents were to meet at a convenience store for visitation where the shooting would take place on Monday, June 18, 2021.
The FBI stated that on that day, the three sisters sent over 150 texts and calls related to the murder attempt. Elisa Mapson reportedly told the eldest sister Charis that “It’s just a Halo,” relating the shooting to the Xbox franchise Halo as a means of encouraging her.
Charis Mapson served in the U.S Marines from 2007 to 2011. FBI agents mentioned this to demonstrate both the level of skill Charis had as well as how dangerous this situation was for the victim saying that “she was required to demonstrate a certain skill level in rifle marksmanship.”
The investigation also turned up a list of items and instructions on Elisa’s phone which included “disguises, ladder, climbing rope, binoculars, ‘write down what to text Thorn,’ luck beads, bless and luck, gloves, and ‘after avoid Ala.’”
It’s unknown what was planned after the intended murder but apparently, the trio also had an escape planned as well. Before putting the plan into action, stripes were installed on Tierzah’s 2009 F-150 to change its appearance.
The Murder Attempt Goes Into Action
Two of the Mapson sisters—Elisa and Charis—were at the Walker County convenience store for about four hours while the mastermind of the plot was running behind. The whole time, Tierzah texted her ex with updates to keep up communication and relay when the target would arrive.
At around 5:40 PM, the victims were alerted to shots with one striking the trunk of their vehicle and another hitting the father—the primary target—in the shoulder. The bullet would become lodged in his chest and he was in a dangerous position as more shots were just outside the vehicle’s door.
Fortunately, the victims would make it inside the store, thwarting the Mapson sisters’ plan. The investigation showed that Charis fired the shots using a rifle. She was positioned on “a wooded hill behind a nearby church.”
The father would be rushed to a hospital in Tuscaloosa and treated for his wound which was deemed to be non-life-threatening. Meanwhile, the white F-150 would leave the area but the trio would be pinned as likely suspects. The Mapson sisters were captured sometime later.
Sentencing of the Sisters
In July 2021, the sisters were convicted of a number of crimes. On Friday, April 8, 2022, Tierzah was given 60 months in prison for discharging of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, conspiracy to commit interstate stalking, and two counts each of interstate domestic violence and interstate stalking. Remember, this was a crime across states.
As for Elisa and Charis, they were both convicted of discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, conspiracy to commit interstate stalking, and two counts of stalking. Since they were the two directly involved with the shooting of the child’s father, they received 120 months.
Needless to say, this was one of those cases where there was a little more to it. This wasn’t simply an altercation gone wrong or a shootout at a public place, this was a conspiracy to commit murder. Time was put into this act of violence, a trap was set, preparation was done, and stories were established in the case that they were captured.
