The Inner Circle already feels like a distant memory, but sharing the ring with Chris Jericho is something Santana is no stranger to. They’ve been both partners and opponents in an AEW ring, but never like tonight. Santana is out for blood, after Jericho potentially put Eddie Kingston on the shelf using a fireball. Tonight is a straight up grudge match, and could look like more of a fight than anything else.
Enter The Wizard, Chris Jericho!
Jericho would have a new nickname tonight, The Wizard. However Santana would leap from the ring onto Jericho as he came within reach, before Santana laid in some heavy chops – before an irish whip into the barricade. He’d set up the steel steps, but Jericho hit from behind. Jericho grabbed the camera, before Santana hit a double middle finger – and kicked Jericho in the gut.
A pump kick to the face landed, and this one finally hit the ring so the bell could ring. Jericho would send Santana to the apron, and hit the triangle dropkick, with Santana landing on the steel steps. The Wizard was in control, and pummelled Santana on the mat. Jericho hit the backdrop, before looking for a superplex and getting an ear ringing slap instead.
Santana caught Jericho out of the sky with a dropkick, before countering the running bulldog by driving him into the corner. Three Amigos would land, before looking for a Frog Splash. Jericho would try to counter, only to take a headbutt and the splash would follow for a near fall. Jericho would block a Samoan Drop attempt before applying the Walls of Jericho in the ring.
Santana would get the ropes before a roll up for a two count, before a rolling cutter for a two count. Ortiz would take down the JAS at ringside, before Santana hit a lariat for a near fall.A cannonball senton landed, but Matt Mernard distracted the referee – allowing for a low blow into Judas Effect for the win. It was a 5 on 2 beatdown, with Proud n’ Powerful laid out.
Rey Fenix made his return to AEW last week, and is not wasting any time trying to get into the mix. He took the fight to House of Black last week, and this week will battle Dante Martin with a spot in the Owen Hart Memorial Cup on the line. This is going perhaps be the fastest match in AEW history, with many already comparing it to the excellent cruiserweight matches from WCW.
These two would lock up in the middle of the ring to start, before they’d start to show their speed – with Fenix nailing a dropkick. Martin was sent to the outside, before Fenix dove in with a crossbody. In the ring, they’d trade near falls on the mat – but neither man got more than a two count. Martin would hit a huge headscissor takedown, before Fenix went for a kick and Martin jumped over him.
A Canadian Destroyer from Martin landed, before Fenix slipped outside and was dropped with a huge dive. They’d both make their way into the ring, where Fenix hit a big kick in the corner before a reverse super Spanish Fly for a near fall. Rolling Elbow was caught into a slam from Martin, before a diving crossbody for a near fall.
Fenix hit a fast hurricanrana, but only got a two count. He’d float outside and back in before hitting a pop up cutter. Muscle Buster was blocked into a roll up, getting Martin two before a superkick landed. Both men landed on their feet out of a super Spanish Fly, before Martin hit a deadly poison rana. Nose Dive was scouted, and Fenix hit the Fenix Driver for the victory.
