The Owen Hart Memorial Cup is just about to get started, and there’s another qualifying match tonight on the womens side of the bracket. Two of the fastest in the AEW womens division will clash, as former AEW Women’s World Champion Riho meets TJPW’s Yuka Sakazaki in a joshi clash. Riho is back after a shoulder injury in January during a match with Britt Baker – and is fired up tonight with some new black gear.
Yuka Sakazaki & Riho Bring Some Joshi Flavour To AEW
Riho would grab a wrist lock to start, only for Sakazaki to block. They’d trade pinfall attempts, before Riho nailed a dropkick to the face of Sakazaki. A running knee strike and a crossbody would get a two count, before Sakazaki would cartwheel off the top rope and hit a dropkick of her own.
Riho was sent to the outside, and Sakazaki followed with a cannonball senton. In the ring, Sakazaki applied a leg lock on Riho, with the only way to escape as the bottom rope. The legs of Riho were damaged, so she avoided the top rope and got a two count off a running bulldog.
Sakazaki would hit a rising knee in the corner, before Riho was able to take her down. Diving foot stomp would be avoided, before Sakazaki hit a Northern Lights Bomb. Magical Girl Splash was set up, but Riho got the knees up. The knees would take more damage, but Riho was able to set up a Snap Dragon Suplex.
Owen Hart Field Laid Out
Running knee strike was blocked into a pinfall attempt, before Riho was able to counter into a pinfall of her own. Riho nailed a running knee strike, and Sakazaki kicked out a 2.9. They’d battle for control on the top rope, with Riho taking a super flatliner. Riho was able to kick out, before countering the Merry Go-Round into a pinfall for two.
They’d trade forearm smashes in the middle of the ring, before Riho went for a flash pinfall – and qualifies for the Owen Hart Memorial Cup. She faces Ruby Soho in the first round, with Red Velvet drawing Hikaru Shida – and Britt Baker gets the Joker, a mystery contestant. Toni Storm & Jamie Hayter have been confirmed for a first round clash for weeks.
