Calgary Stampeders wide receiver Brendan Langley has received an indefinite suspension following a melee at an airport. He will be banned from the Stampeders’ training facility and won’t be involved with the team during the suspension.
The Calgary Stampede Place Wide Receiver Brendan Langley Under Indefinite Suspension Following Assault at Airport
The decision came down following an internal investigation into Langley punching a United Airlines employee at the Newark Liberty International Airport on May 19, 2022. There was an argument that escalated into a brawl. Not only that but there was a video of the fight that went viral. Apparently, the fight was started after Langley used a wheelchair to carry his luggage and was admonished for doing so.
United Airlines would fire the worker who slapped Brendan Langley. The wide receiver would be arrested for simple assault afterward. The Stamps’ president and GM weighed in on the situation in a statement:
“The Stampeders take matters such as these very seriously. After learning details of the incident including the filing of a criminal charge, we are indefinitely suspending Brendan Langley.”
Formerly a cornerback for the Denver Broncos during the 2017-2018 NFL season, he later went on to Seattle Seahawks as part of the practice squad in 2019. Langley would sign a $3.17 million deal for four years with the Calgary Stampeders earlier this year.
