When Cesaro (Claudio Castagnoli) decided not to resign with the WWE in February, fans flooded social media with posts about where they wanted him to go with AEW being the top choice.
But he hasn’t signed with anyone of made any major announcements, and that’s left many wondering what he’s doing.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter said he’s still a free agent but he’s laying low and taking time off for family reasons.
He has a young child and is cited as his main reason for spending so much time away from the ring, but there’s a chance he’ll return before too much longer.
He recently trademarked the name CSRO, a play on his WWE name, and that is enough to get us excited that we’ll see him back soon.
Tony Kahn is interested
The top place many fans cited as wanting to see Cesaro go was/is AEW, and it’s a possibility given that Tony Kahn is a fan of him and has spoken highly of him.
But as many, including ourselves, have pointed out, the AEW roster has become bloated and it could be difficult for Cesaro to get TV and match time after his initial debut.
Some detractors like to point out anyone that signs with AEW will be on Dark in a couple of weeks. That’s not necessarily the case, but it is a possibility given the amount of talent they have.
There’s another possibility and that is he could return to the WWE.
The Observer pointed out: “with the size of some of the new contracts WWE has given, there is the feeling a guy like Cesaro, in his early 40s, will return because he’s comfortable with WWE even though he recognizes he’ll never be used on top.”
This most likely references Cody and his contract and recent push, as it’s also generated talk that there are others in AEW that wouldn’t have gone to the WWE a couple of years ago would now if they get a great deal.
To be honest, we’re not sure Cody would’ve gotten the big deal or current push had he not been a former EVP and a founder of AEW. That status gives WWE a lot of reason to put him center stage.
Getting into the swing of things
There is some news about Cesaro’s plans as it’s been reported that he’s been talking with Conrad Thompson about being involved in Starrcast, which just so happens to be taking place on WWE’s SummerSlam weekend.
Others have reportedly been confirmed to be there as well as Johnny Gargano is expected to be on a panel and Ric Flair will have his final match.
There are plenty of possibilities out there and as much as we’re excited to see Cesaro return to the ring, we’re even more excited to see what else he’s planning on doing.
We wish him the best and can’t wait to see what he does. What do you think Cesaro’s planning? Let us know in the comments below.
