A St. Joseph, Missouri couple has been charged with the murder of their 8-year-old son. The youngster, who was diagnosed with autism, was killed on May 2, 2022, and his parents were the first suspects as a result of a history of CPS calls on them.
Missouri Couple Charged with the Death of 8-Year-Old Autistic Son – They Were “Sick of Them Calling CPS on Them”
The grandmother of the child called 911 on Brian Morrow (41) and Mia Morrow (34). Since it was a welfare check and the Morrows are a known quantity to both the police and child protective services, an investigation was launched. Little did anyone know; the child had died a day before the investigation.
Once the police entered the house, they found the 8-year-old’s body on a couch. According to UpNorthLive, the boy was only 31 pounds when he was discovered. Mother Mia Morrow would later say in a statement following their arrest that he should’ve been taken to the ER sooner and was experiencing breathing problems prior to his death.
As to the reason why child protective services (CPS) received so many calls on the Morrows, apparently, their child was going to the LOGAN Autism Learning Center. Centers focused on students with learning or cognitive disorders contact CPS when something is amiss with children left in the care.
Often, it’s signs of abuse and/or neglect and the LOGAN Autism Learning Center reportedly had concerns about how often the child threw up throughout the day. However, Mia Morrow says that the reasons CPS was repeatedly called on her and Brian were unfounded and that they were “sick of them calling CPS on them.”
When the Morrows were arrested, they both tested positive for meth, confirming Brian’s daughter’s guess that they were using the drug. Both Brian and Mia were given a $700,000 bond and have to wear a GPS tether. They are also prohibited from contacting each other and anyone under 18 years of age.
Expect them back in court on Friday, June 10, 2022.
