The son of TikTok content creator Mama Tot was shot and killed at a gas station in Prichard, Alabama on June 25, 2022. The following Monday, Prichard Detective Jason Hadaway held a press conference to discuss recent developments into the shooting investigation.
The Son of TikTok Content Creator Mama Tot was Shot While Selling Marijuana According to Police
According to Hadaway, on that day the victim—Randon Lee—and the suspect approached the gas pumps around the same time. One of the suspects—who was in a black car on the scene—climbed into Lee’s car and shot him. The shooter would climb out, jump into the black car, and leave the scene.
A detail that was revealed in the shooting is that Lee, the son of Mama Tot–Ophelia Nichols–was selling marijuana to two customers at the time of his murder.
Hadaway went on to say that after the shooting, the killers drove across the street to another gas station and stopped. Medics were unable to save Lee’s life at the scene. He would go on to say that the Prichard PD has “a couple of suspects in mind” but those won’t be made public at the moment.
The detective did say that Lee’s murderers knew that he sold marijuana and that this was first time the 18-year-old was in Prichard. Hadaway put out a call for Ophelia Nicole’s 7.5 million followers on TikTok to help if they know anything about the case:
“This homicide is not more important than any homicide we’ve had in the city of Prichard or actually anywhere. I realize that Ms. Nichols has a TikTok following which is great, and all those followers could help by calling in if they have any information.”
On her TikTok @shoelover99, Nichols posted about her son’s death and said that “Somebody’s gotta know something” and that it would’ve been Randon’s 19th birthday. She would discuss her feelings towards the murder and how she’s dealing with it.
Following Up with New Developments
After the press conference, there was a follow-up where she responded to the police’s conclusion that Lee had been selling marijuana.
“Through this process we’ve found out a lot of stuff…a lot of stuff we just didn’t know. When your children live out on their own and pay their own bills and they have a good job…it just don’t cross your mind that they would be doing anything to get themselves into trouble.
We’ve been told that the detectives think that marijuana was being [dealt]. My son was meeting there, and either they tried to rob him or they did rob him, but he was shot.”
The video goes on to explain Randon’s struggles with depression and that the family just had a birthday dinner with him. In the comments of the video, she added “It’s people involved, not a person” and that they believe that they knew who it was but couldn’t reveal it just yet.
