It seems like there is no end to Joe Rogan’s controversial thoughts and opinions. A long period after the Oscars, he brings them back to the podcast as a topic, just to express and cement his stance on the incident between Chris Rock and Will Smith.
The situation is not as serious as some would expect from Joe Rogan. To tell you from the beginning he judges Will Smith’s reaction. He agrees that there is no justification for it whatsoever. However, there is something that is unusual in his mind, as always. Apparently, Rogan and his fellow comedian colleague Fahim Anwar find Chris Rock’s joke praising, and admiring.
According To Joe Rogan, Chris Rock’s Bald Joke About Jada Smith Is Not Negative – Chris Compared Her To A Hero! Opinion: How The Academy Should’ve Resolved The Situation?
“It’s not even a mean joke, it is very, I have said this before, but I will say it again. Just because of the interest of being clear here, that movie is a strong movie. GI Jane is a movie about a beautiful woman Demi Moore, who becomes a fucking navy seal.” – Rogan says.
While Fahim quietly agrees with him, Rogan continues – “She is a badass lady. There’s nothing negative about it. Like saying GI Jane 2, there’s nothing negative about it. It’s like you are literally comparing yourself to a hero or someone is comparing you rather to a hero. It is not an insult.”
Yeah Joe, but Chris did not compare her to Demi Moore because of her physical strength or on-field tactical abilities. He compares her to the ‘soldier’ Demi Moore solely due to her non-existent hairstyle. So, to say that he compares her to a hero is not something that sums up the situation. That is not even close.
Joking about people’s medical conditions is not something that can be justified as well. Out of so many jokes available, Chris Rock chooses to go with the one that is the lowest and edgiest of them all.
There were other options for sorting the situation out as well. But, as Chris chooses the edgiest joke, Will Smith chooses a reaction with the same or even lower level of justification.
”First of all, that whole scene doing that in that manner in that place is a great example of what’s wrong with the glorification of just being able to go up to someone and smack them in the face.” – Joe Rogan says.
And here, Joe is right. But in the same way that someone cannot glorify physical attacks, he cannot glorify verbal attacks and insults as well. Chris Rock’s joke is edgy and humiliating. Maybe this will be a lesson for all upcoming Oscars hosts. They will pay closer attention to what they say.
In the end, it’s not Will Smith that needs to sort this out, it is the public and the academy. The academy should use the same yardstick to judge both Will and Chris. Will Smith receives a ban from attending events or programs, but there are no measures taken against Chris. To say the least, he should be asked to publicly apologize and should receive a ban from hosting other Academy events.
