Back in the days when the promotion was gaining popularity and was in the process of making its name, some of the most sounding names were Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar. On July 11th, it has been exactly 13 years since the legendary rematch of the two UFC fighters. Then, Brock Lesnar took the win by a KO in the second round. After all this time, now, UFC fans are starting to question if there is a chance that we will see these two clash once more.
Frank Mir went forward with his career and since UFC 100 had a long run. He eventually reached a professional record of 19-13-0. However, since Brock Lesnar ‘retired’ and moved to WWE only after three fights since the Mir rematch, there was no other opportunity for the due to make the trilogy. There were rumors that the trilogy fight will happen in WWE, however that didn’t reach fruition as well.
Is There A Chance For Us To See A Frank Mir Against Brock Lesnar Trilogy?
“I wanted to put myself in a position by going out there and being successful at it, but it was one of those things where it wasn’t even in the talks.” – Mir says for the rumored WWE match.
“I would be game for a third MMA fight. No, it was never close to happening. Not on his radar, I guess. Just not that he wanted to do it. When you’re the A-side, he’s a draw money-wise, he gets to make more of the calls. From what I was told, because of the way I responded after the second fight, he truly felt that I was a little off. I think in Lesnar’s mind, how could you want to fight me again? People don’t want to see it, so there’s something wrong with me that I think made him uneasy.”
Brock Lesnar on the other hand doesn’t have a long career in MMA. He has only 8 pro fights and a record of 5-3-0. However, somehow in this short period he manages to have one win and one loss against his nemesis Frank Mir.
“I don’t know much about his pro wrestling. I don’t watch that often so I don’t know how bad he is at promos.” – Mir says for Lesnar. “But I think he’s definitely a guy, from what I understand and talking to other people in the industry, he does the bare minimum of what he has to do to cash a check. And I don’t fault him for that. We all gotta make money and I think he’s more naturally a fighter than he is a pro wrestler. So I think it’s not his first love but financially it pays better. Obviously, he can continue to do it for a lot longer.”
Until now there is no comment on this from Brock Lesnar, however, the UFC fans are already starting to hype up for the possible trilogy fight. If Dana White thinks as highly of the match, as the fans, it is no wonder to see this happening.
