There is a ban on abortion introduced by the Supreme Court in several states and it most certainly is still the main topic of conversation across the USA. The loudest critics of this ban are the women. And it is understandable since they are the affected half of the nation by this ruling. The actress Jessica Chastain is no exception. She sends a message through social media on the 4th of July.
Jessica Chastain who actually is an Oscar winner and a director, took to Twitter to celebrate Independence Day. But her celebration and her message are not usual. She spoke about the Roe v. Wade sentence by the Supreme Court.
Jessica Chastain Wished Happy Independence Day – Judged Ban On Abortion
Roe v. Wade is a legal case dating from 1973, in which the Supreme Court ruled that the restrictive state regulation of abortion is unconstitutional. It means that the criminalization of abortion leads to a direct violation of women’s constitutional rights to privacy. Now, after 47 years, we witness the overturning of the law and as a result in some states, abortion is a crime.
The 45-year-old actress shared a tweet that got extremely popular and re-tweeted. As expected she is in favor of abortion and in favor of women’s rights. She believes that women can choose what to do with their bodies and have the exclusive right to decide whether they want to give birth, or not.
“Happy Independence Day from me and my reproductive rights.” – The Oscar-winning actress says. She included a selfie photo in the post as well revealing that even at 45 years of age she still looks stunning. One more interesting ‘detail’ that can be seen in the photo is that she is ‘flipping the bird’ with both her hands.
The image is already at 500 thousand likes and over 40 thousand retweets. The majority of people who re-tweet or comment on the photo are weighing on the same side as the actress. Jessica Chastain thinks that women should be free to make their own decisions, especially about something that is so personal. Something that might affect the course of a woman’s life.
There are comments against the actress as well. Or even better, not against her statement, but against the day that she chooses to deliver it to the world.
“I wish people would not use today to denounce the America we (unfortunately) have at the moment and instead declare their commitment to the America of our ideals and a future without the imposition of an unelected tribunal.” – one user says.
What do you think? Is this the right moment to share something like this?
